Thought everyone might be pleased to see the Golf 7 has won Wheels Magazine Car of the Year

Winner! VW Golf takes out Wheels COTY (http://motoring.ninemsn.com.au/cars/news/8784197/winner-vw-golf-takes-out-wheels-coty)

Pretty good coming off the back of Car of the World 2013.

It is definitely a nice package.

Cue the conspiracy theorists... :)

Actually, including my current Mk VI, I've had three Wheels COTY vehicles too...

I've owned 3 white Golfs - a mk1, mk6 & mk7 - and they have been the 3 Golfs that have won Wheels COTY. I wish I'd had the foresight to have put that mk1 away for restoration. It was the most troublesome car I have owned (thanks Aust assembly & indifferent Aust dealer attitudes) but the one I'd most like to own & drive again.

It isn't all the car anyone will ever need (I think Wheels should tone down the flowery prose a notch or two), but from judging the car's abilities and what it offers to the motorist in relation to its price tag, the Mk7 Golf is an impressive piece of kit indeed. I don't know if I'd have awarded it the top prize (haven't read the mag proper), but definitely a finalist in my view.

So did they give the award to the entire golf Mk 7 range or just the 7 GTI?

The whole range. They only do it that way now.

Golf GTI is nominated as one of the finalists for World Performance Car of the Year. It would be so unreal if it beats the like of Porsche and Ferrari. It will be announced mid-April.

Considering what the Golf GTI offers (as a total package) in relation to its purchase price, I think it's a pretty impressive machine. That, and the Mercedes A45 AMG, in a slightly higher price bracket.

However, if one can afford a Ferrari 458 or Porsche 911 Turbo/GT3, then rest assured, the driving experience that these cars offer is nothing short of sensational.
