Hi all, I'm probably mistaken but I though my highline mirrors were supposed to fold in, dip and have little lights that point down the side of the door. I've got none of that. What have you guys observed on you mirror in this regard?

No fold in or light. To get the left hand mirror to dip when in reverse you need to have your mirror adjustment knob set on L

No, they don't fold and the downlight isn't fitted here.

Probably prompted by spare parts sales and unlike the Mk 6, which has mirror housings that swivel in either direction on impact, Australian Mk 7 (semi-)Highlines have the mirrors rigidly mounted to ensure that the first careless parker that hits them will break them off.

I never thought to check before I bought the car — might well have made me reconsider.

In a previous life I ran a fleet of vans with similar setup — mirrors were among the most frequent replacements, so breakage is probably only a matter of time.

The reverse dipping function (for the left mirror only) is there but you'll probably have to enable it.

There is a thread on how to do it already clearly obvious in the title of it . It also tells you in the manual

Oh good, so it wasn't me with my Asian muscle...

Pity they didn't even offer an option for the folding mirrors.

Yeh, I saw that. My question was also referring to the folding and the lights. I had a Jetta loan car that did all of this and was great.

You can fold them manually

I was told they could be folded in manually, they better coz I have a narrow garage and folding in the mirrors (even manually) would help. Still I'm pretty annoyed power folding mirrors weren't available as an option on any of Golfs.

You can fold them manually

And to show the power of the Internet can convince you to push that little bit harder (and in the right direction)

Tried pushing harder — still couldn't make either mirror fold.
They appear to be bolted solidly to the door mounts — sufficiently so that I can move the car with them when the handbrake's off.

Does the source of that photo state that is specifically of a non-power foldable mirror? I've seen power folding mirrors that look like that so I wonder if it is just a photo of that.

Non-power folding mirrors will fold the exact same as power folding mirrors, but you manually have to move them.

I just went out and folded mine back. They sort of rotate back and up, not straight back.

Well there you go.. Two people have confirmed they manually fold. :)

The mirrors on my 6R polo are very hard to fold, to the point where when they eventually do let go you feel like you're breaking them...

It's my own car, not from Google Images :)

I think Idle needs to hit the gym for a bit :)

You may be right — after all I am 90 — but the fact remains that I could easily fold the mirrors on the Mk 6 I sold just over a month ago, and can't even shake those on the new Mk 7 (TDI110 Highline.)

As I said, in neutral with the handbrake off I can move the car by shoving either mirror in the direction it's supposed to fold (they should be foldable both ways, BTW.)

They still give me the impression they're bolted on.
