as per the title I am looking at the Skoda Fabia RS Wagon, new or near new/demo,

What price should I be looking at?
Which mfg dates should I avoid for the DSG/twincharger issues.

any other tips or hints would be appreciated,

I ordered mine Oct last year with a sunroof - hot it on lease in April. Valued at about $26k

No issues so far, but I have 22,000 in 7 months...

thanks Difinity,

are there any issues with the drivetrain? DSG/twincharger motor?

are the more recent built cars immune to these issues?

I have the same questions, they are a ripper drive and convenient size, but would only buy with updated motor gearbox combo with problems ironed out.

Good news guys. They are a great car to own and drive. On the open road during a family holiday I was averaging 6.0 litres/per 100km with a range of 720km per tank. It has a enough space in the back to beat most larger hatch backs and enough power to put a smile on your face.

Other then a little oil consumption I have had no problems at all after 9 months and generally love driving the car. New I would not pay more then $25k, second hand I don't think you will find one to be honest.

thanks for the reply mmmRacer

the one I am looking at is a July2012 build wagon. they are wanting nearly 29k for it, (it has only 50km)

I am unsure if they will go 25k for it,

when is the fabia due to be replaced?

My wagon is May 2012 build. I paid $25k for it as a demo model with 5000km on the clock when the drive away price was still $34K in March this year. The marked price was $28k on sale and after a test drive I offered them $25k and they said yes.

For the hatch I have heard of people paying as little as $23k drive away.

In relation to the next model Fabia. It is not expected until 2015. Most likely this may be the last twincharger Fabia.

One of Skoda dealers in Perth had 2012 RS wagon with 1500km for 22990+ORC, couldn't sell it for at least 2 months... So I recon 25K driveaway is absolute max you should offer your dealer...

Bad news. The CAVE and current engines both use oil. I have a CAVE engine and have had up to 800ml oil consumption per 1000km up to 10,000km where I had the breather mod done. Still since then it has been more like 300ml of oil per 1000km. The 2011 model Fabia's are subject to the DSG recall, The 2012 Fabia's are ok. I do not believe there are any 2011 VRS wagons in Oz (I could be wrong). On the open road or the race track the Fabia doesn't use any oil. However stop start city driving is a different story.

Yes thanks for the reply and real life info. Very tempting to buy one, but would try for the 2 yr extended warranty if so.

Mine is a jan 13 build. Not had any issues. @ 22,400 k since April, lots of country, Canberra and open road. Mix of gentle and quick driving.
Still get about 6 litres / 100. No known excessive oil usage.
Great little car.

this will be on the engine number?

mmmRacer

2012 build cars will most likely have the CAVE engine and 2013 build cars will most likely have the CTHE engine.

If its a 2012 plate model you should be able to talk them down to $25k easy. Hard part will be finding the colour you want.

Thanks, happy to hear, mix is same as my sort of drive- 33k per year. Might get a bit more serious about a purchase.

Vag recall all 7 speed deg box's. Should I go ahead With it?

Your new car may not be affected. My car has not be included in either of the DQ200 calls.

To put your mind at ease take a photo of the VIN number which is at the bottom of the passenger side front windscreen with your phone. Then you can check the NEW ZEALAND Skoda website for relevant recall campaigns.

Recall Campaign Finder - Å*KODA (http://www.skoda.co.nz/my-skoda/service-campaign-finder)

just realized another stupid question,

is the Fabia RS P Plate friendly? (NSW)

(my wife is still on her P plates)

mmmRacer
16-11-2013, 10:39 PM
P1 and P2 vehicle and passenger conditions < Car < Getting a licence < Licensing < Roads and Maritime Services (http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/licensing/gettingalicence/car/p1p2_conditions.html)

Your wife would need to apply for a exemption to drive the car. Because the RMS ban turbo cars automatically, it means that they would be making a lot of money out of familys who own modern fuel efficient cars since most of them are fitted with turbos now.

Reviving a thread from the dead... have any more issues arisen for the wagon other than the oil consumption and usual dsg gearbox challenges?

Difinity
11-08-2015, 12:57 PM
Going back to my (much) earlier post - though now almost 60k k's. No significant issues - had to top the oil once, but much less usage than some I know.
Helps if you get good long distance miles on it after each oil change I think...

Thanks Difinity.. I went and looked, had a drive and fell in love. Offer got accepted today so I will be soon collecting my "new" car.

It is a CAVE spec which has me a little worried, but the owners tell me it has performed faultlessly and it still has warranty going, so I hope I got one of the good ones :)

Leaking rockercovers according to briskoda. Ours seems to have oily dust gathering. just need to figure out how to get plastic engine covers off without braking them to get a better look.

Misfiring/shaking at startup which is fuel map adjusting according to Skoda and told to run 98 which it does :D

Got a quote other day for extended warranty, 2yrs and 50k and negotiable $2k according to salesman.

Thanks muli

I have had the shudder at idle which I was thinking was just my imagination... I will add that to my list of things that I probably need to talk to Skoda about.

I get an occasional warning about a globe being out, despite all of them working. This seems to be something people have mentioned on briskoda too.

And my oil level isn't registering on the dipstick so I suspect there is some work to be done there too.

My old Fabia RS had a globe warning, turned out to be one of the rear number plate lights that had to be replaced.
As for no oil on the dipstick, get some in ASAP - in fact i highly recommend having a spare litre bottle in the boot.
I wouldn't thrash it without the oil level being full.
My 2 cents, enjoy the car, loved it while I had it, especially with the additional power from my Promotech unit.

Dude if you have not no oil on your dip then head off to Supercheap Auto or Repco or where ever and get some Penrite ENVIRO+ 5W-30 (Full Synthetic). I am guessing the factory warranty has expired now?

I brought my Fabia RS as a ex-demo with 5000km and 4 days after pick up the oil light came on and the oil was only just showing up on the drip stick. However after a few oil consumption tests I got the oil breather valve mod done at 15,000km (1st service in Oz) afterwards the car stopped using oil. Now at 35,000km the car has been fine for the last 20,000km.

Although every car is different.

Best waiting for specials at repco when its 40-50% off the castrol/shell oils and buying few 5l drums as was the case 3-4 weeks ago :) $40 something instead of 80.
Hit dealer up for topup if under warranty or serviced at Skoda service centre.

Never fear, I have been playing with cars for over 25 years... she isn't getting driven around with no oil!!

It was a more global statement suggesting that with a CAVE engine on board that has never been to a dealer for oil use issues, its probably time that I kicked that off. It is a 2012 build that was sold in May 2013, so it still has around 9 months warranty to go.

I have a sept 2012 build CTHE engined rs wagon that was using upwards of 700ml per 1000 kms. Had the oil jets and software updates done under warranty. That was near 4000 kms ago and I still haven't needed to put any oil in it. Car has 32000kms on it. Win!!

Good result. I have done about 3800km since the oil jet update and put 200ml in at one stage. That compares to between 200 and 500ml per 1000km previously.

So I finally took my RS wagon in for a dealer visit, as it had used about 4L of oil over 4000km of driving.

Oil consumption test commenced.

Also got an updated engine map for the idle issue. Hopefully that might address the single instance of the "EPC" light coming on too.

And they have ordered a new clutch for it as well, since the DSG has not been as good as it could be.

Kind of expected some or all of these issues, so no concerns here. I love the car. Goes great, very comfortable and the extra space of the wagon is a ripper.

Occasional rough idle on cold start.

The fix worked mostly, though it still seems to do it sometimes but not as severely.

I have since had my oil squirters replaced since this post, and the clutch change improved the DSG operation though I still reckon its not as good as it could be. Definitely not a patch on the 6 speed in our diesel golf

I got told it was the cats warming up, another time it was injectors warming up.
ive had the epc light come on once and that was over 40k ago.

Clutchpacks done few weeks ago and tbh it still shudders on hill starts worse than it did new.
