View Full Version : New Passat Wagon advice

Hi everyone.

I'm thinking of buying a new Passat Wagon. I am considering a 2.0T or the 3.2.

I am probably leaning towards a 2.0T because, on the face of it, the 3.2 doesn't seem worth the extra $11k. What do you think?

In terms of options, I am thinking leather and the automatic boot closer (Wife is too fragile to close it manually on a regular basis). Does anyone have the auto boot? If so, is it good?

I am also thinking, maybe, springing for the DynAudio. Does anyone have it? What's the standard system like?

Are there any well known probs? Does anyone know what a good price to haggle for is?

Would appreciate any other thoughts anyone has.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I have the 103kw diesel wagon and am very impressed with performance and fuel economy. I get 850km per tank in the city and just over 900km with lots of country driving...and I am not light with the throttle either. I would recommend taking a diesel for a squirt...you will be plesently suprised.

The standard radio is fantastic, with great bass, midrange and treble response...although I did not do comparison with the dynaudio package.

The auto boot closer looked like a nice to have, but I looked like another thing to go wrong eventualy.

All in all...what a great bit of kit!

Dad has the 3.2 Sedan which i have been driving for the last week or so (he is away overseas for a month or so) and i have to say im pretty disappointed with the fuel economy. Apart from that and the hesitation "issue" with the DSG it is a lovely car. If it was my money i don't know if i could warrant buying the 3.2, but once you've heard it, it certainly goes a long way to changing your mind!

**EDIT**
Basic radio here too, sounds pretty good to me. Not a patch on my VR6's stereo but for a factory system not bad at all.
Don't have the boot closer either, but its not a heavy one to shut so i wouldn't worry too much.

Ours is 3.2, 4 motion, DSG, Black metallic, black leather, sunroof, electric drivers seat, 18's with the lowered suspension was $62k on the road.

We have a 3.2 V6 4 motion fully optioned.

Out on the open road the full econony is in the 7s 8s, around town it is currently sitting on 9.6.

Cannot complain about the full economy on ours.

I have the 125Kw TDI wagon (07/08 ) and am very happy. Goes very well indeed, very powerful. We got the leather and are pleased.

Audio is fine, after some inital tweaking. Standard setting has too much treble.

I don't think the V6 is worth the extra.

I would say the V6 is worth it. The 4Motion system is fanstatic. Grip on wet roundabouts with negative camber (and yours truly going a little too fast) is unbelivable (only know that as I backed off coming out and experienced some lift off oversteer, ESP caught it before I could but had I stayed on the power it would have been fine). Had it on snow during the ski season and it performed brilliantly. Two wheel car would only have just gotton out of the spot I was in a few months ago with the thaw. Power is great for overtaking which is one of the main reasons we got it as we do a lot of country Kms. V6 comes with lots of standard extras too. I cannot recomend it highly enough. Don't forget, you get what you pay for in this world.

I'd also be interested to know from anyone who's got this option. The dealer advised that its not a massive difference from the standard 10speaker set up......noticable clarity when the volume is up high tho. Disappointing that there's no sub included. Would be interested to hear from anyone that has compared both systems.

Mind you for me the stock system is more than adequate pretty good for a factory system but if you are into your audio then it's worth it.

Interesting feedback on the Dynaudio. I ended up taking the option anyway since it was bundled in with satnav/reversing camera setup. Hope it lives up to the hype, I still think VW should've worked in a sub somewhere. I'd gladly give up the back storage corner of the boot (wagon) for a sub enclosure (a 10" sub would more than suffice).
