Could someone please explain what the different numbers for wheel sizes are..... I know about tyre sizes, but this offset, 4 x 100 studd pattern etc.. is very confusing :?

cheers
Lee

yep they will fit (pcd 4x100 is good for mk1 2 and half of 3)but the offset being 40 (the et) means they will be quite close to the strut tower

rule of thumb the higher the offset the closer the wheels will be towards the centre of the car the lower the offset and (then negative)the further out into the arches of the car.

from memory golf standard et is like 38 or something ,

another thing to check is the centre bore which from memory is 58mm , bigger is ok (spacer rings can be used)but smaller requires a trip to the machinists

Centre bore is 57.1mm, I learnt the hard way.
Spent $250 getting my new wheels machined(to 57mm) and then the excitement of new tyres on them. Come time to fit them on the car and they don't fit. :P

My VW rabbit service manual says the standard offset is 45. Could be different for the Aus delivered golf.

The offset will be different with the width of the wheel.

There were two different wheels sold in Australia, LS,GLS and a narrower one for the GLD.
