im on 65000 kms and still have the factory clutch in my 2006 gti, with no sign of it going any time soon.
what kind of milage are the rest of you getting from your factory/aftermarket clutches?
i reckon i must drive it like a grandma :)
2001 Audi S3 - 170,000kms, sold. Still on original clutch with good life left in it.
2010 Golf R - 92,000kms, not a sign of wear.
And the clincher. 1995 BMW 318is. 260,000kms. Original clutch.

Golf R OEM clutches seem to be pretty good unless you are launching them all the time with more power. Provided i didnt launch the car my OEM clutch was still find at 250-260awkw. It did however have a hard life. 42,000km
Now running the clutches i sell, southbend DXD-Stage 3 daily. Should be good for 600HP
Old clutch (got a bit hot)

:) Can you get their stage 2 endurance clutch/flywheel kits?
I'm expecting mine to expire (especially the DMF) with my next major upgrade...

I didn't change my clutch until 120k and even then it was preventative because I was getting a tune, the stock one didn't go. I believe Troy is Stage 3 on his stock clutch - basically if you do drive like a grandma, your clutch won't go.

these are some pretty big kms for stock clutches - thats a good thing!
i'll stick to my grandma gear changes then and i'll not have to change the clutch for 7 yrs :)

63000km, APR tuned since 1000km, still on original clutch (and no real issues yet). Stg2 tune since 10000km.
Will be going to ECS Stg2 clutch with SMF in Jan/Feb, but only because its going to Stg3 tune (& turbo upgrade) then .... :)

All in good humour :P  That was a distinct possibility on Sunday morning, though they would have also nabbed a MkV R32, a Golf R and 2 Octavia vRS wagons:rolleyes:

I have a 138,000km out of my standard clutch (Aug 07 model). Have had an APR tune since Dec 08 (19,000km) and semi slicks (13,000km), no sign giving up any time soon!

My '07 with 95K's only just had the clutch start slipping now (fairly severe now, been about 4 months since first sign of slippage). APR tune since always I think. Previous owner said he used to downshift a lot... so that's probably why. I noticed it started to slip because traction control would activate, but I wouldn't be actually getting any form of wheel spin...
On the topic, has anyone gone the 14lbs flywheel? ECS has it cheaper than the 20.5lbs, and it just seems weird when the prices usually go the other way around. I always wanted to upgrade to a lightweight in my previous car, I just don't see much talk about it here on these forums. Is the torque loss really bad or something..?

I went the ECS 14lb unit at 80,000kms, purely due to the dual mass flywheel failing.
No real difference in the way it drives, and the whole 'loss of torque' thing is absolute crap.

Hmmm, I thought as much, nice to hear. On the gti-r forums clutch set up was a big deal because the gearbox was brittle.. Button clutches where the way to go, but only if you where a good with the pedal.
Guess I'll get to try out a lightweight flywheel for once coupled with stage 1 VR6 kit from ECS. My research suggests that that will hold power well beyond the capabilities of typical tuned 1.8T figures. Something else of interest I found, is that torque is the killer of stock internals, so the reduction of torque should help in that regard, I presume.
Thanks Stuwey.

Mixed daily driving/hooning/Targa stage over 30,000 kms on my 'stage 1' ECS VR6 jobbie and no problems to report at all. Clutch pedal is actually lighter than standard!

ECS stage 1 in my Polo slipped in 5th under WOT with the frankenturbo at full boost. Now got a stage 3 cover and plate from 4 Seasons tuning to go with the ECS lwfw. Really light pedal but a little grabby from standstill, probably made a bit worse due to the Race density dogbone insert.
I regret not up speccing the clutch at the first install and saving money in the long run.
