Not sure if this is the right forum but I was looking at swapping things like radios from the mk7 into older vehicles like mk6 golf or Jettas. Steering wheel even. Are mods like these still possible like it was between mk6 to mk5?

Not from what I can see - its a totally new electrical system from front to back.

Defs a no for the radios, completely different system using optical communication and the dvd drive and SD for the new ones are in the glovebox now!

Mechanically you might be able to fit the new steering wheel, but it doubt it'd be able to interpret the radically changed buttons. Some of the switchgear may be compatible (power window switches, headlight switch) but I think they've barely changed anyway.

What allowed a lot of people to put Mk6 bits in the Mk5 was that they face lifted the Mk5-based Jetta with Mk6 bits creating parts compatible with both. This may happen again, the steering wheel from the new beetle looks like a lot like the Mk7's wheel for instance but it has the normal Mk6 buttons.

Ok thanks. I found a lot of things looked different but that was just based off Internet pics.

Is there anywhere I can read about the new electricals?

I haven't even seen anyone take the dash apart on a Mk7 yet let alone switch components around. My best guess is that the bluetooth module would be comparable to those in the Mk6 and the reversing camera could be similar, possibly with a different plug for the HU though.

Started reading up on a self study of the golf 7 electronics and infotainment. Seems pretty different as others have said. Maybe someone enterprising might get some things to work but I don't think we'll see the easy mods retrofitting like before.

Sad that. I really like the touchscreen sensing fingers in the mk7.

The new beetle will get you fairly close. The wheel is pretty close and so is the climate control unit (which is also in some of the late mk6's too). You can also get the colour MFD for the Golf 6 too.

I didn't realize that second pic was the golf wheel. I thought that was a concept wheel which I didn't like. I prefer my current wheel over those two.

I'm pretty sure the golf 7 has a different sleeker wheel than the beetle wheel.

This is what I had in mind when thinking of future swapping from a mk7 to a mk6.
