Just got this intake in the mail. Anyone installed this yet?

I'll be posting up before and after results soon. For now I'll just leave this here...

Do you have photo's of the unit itself??

I have the Forge intake for my Twin Charged Golf but have if off 99% of the time as it's just so damn loud!

I'd be very interested to hear what the APR unit sounds like.

On a side note, assuming the install is much the same as the Forge unit, it's very easy. 30 minutes probably includes getting out and packing up all your tools as well as a break for a coffee ;)

I'll take pics of the unit and post up within an hour of this post. Haven't installed it yet. The instructions say 30 min and seen easy on first read through.

Any update on this? Is it in? How does it sound?

Haven't installed yet. I wanted to do a baseline reading of the stock box before putting this one on but I'm having trouble doing it in VCDS. Anyone know how to do mass air flow readings tied to the reading of the engine speed??

Finally installed. Can't say it feels any different. Still test driving. Will post pics soon...vids in a couple days of before and after sounds.

Had a couple issues with the installation. Apr didn't send me a supporting bracket and one of the holes on the intake for the filter was misaligned. So had to drill it.

Here is a throwaway low quality cell pic.

Looks really neat mate!
Keen to listen to the vids and get your feedback on performance over the coming weeks...

Got any video to show how it sounds?!? :D

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Been really busy. I have the before video recorded but the after video needs to be done.

To be honest the after doesn't sound much different than the before. I hear spool up noises ONLY when driving with the radio off now vs never hearing them before. It's subtle enough that it won't scare passers by.

In VCDS though I recorded before and after intake temperatures and the APR one keeps intake temperatures down. The stock intake has a cut away section that allows engine bay air to be sucked in. Intake air temps rise pretty quickly when the stock air intake is used versus the APR intake. You may not get more horsepower but just a more consistent type of performance as intake temperatures remain relatively constant.

Some real good info for us all mate - thanks for that!

Seconded. Now that the air temps are rising in BNE, my car is now feeling down on power. In fact, I think I might do this work and upgrade the intercooler before doing anything else. Anything to get cooler air in to the car!

Yes - the heat soak is getting higher due to the hotter weather we are now coming into!

I think intercooler should be done before the intake. Reason being was even though the intake temp changed based on the intake installed the intake manifold temp after the turbo and intercooler didn't change that much. When I get time I will post the data recorded.

Considering that some intakes cost as much as an intercooler I think the intercooler would have a bigger impact. Funny enough I have an S3 intercooler in my bedroom waiting to be installed. Based on time hopefully I get the courage to install it myself and will post the info here.

I would be really interested in that, if you did it. An APR Stage 1 ECU tune would be effective but still suffer from power drops in the hot days (it's 36C here today and the difference is noticeable after driving at 11.30 last night at 21C). That's why I'm leaning towards the intercooler and CAI before the ECU tune.

Bought my 1.4TSI APR intake a week ago as well. They don't come with supporting bracket apparently according to Harding Performance. One of my intake holes was also misaligned (so was the OP's) I guess that's just an hardware issue when they drilled the holes? Was going to install it myself but took the intake back and they drilled and installed it for me with no fee (normally $100 to install). U can definitely hear the difference in the sound of the turbo when you do decided to push the foot down and then release it. Can be really loud if you do it right on the spot. Not so noticeable on the performance increase or throttle response after installation but it sounds nice and that was good enough for me.
