These Tiguans look very impressive and have piqued my interest for some time but there seems to be some differences in the specs according to what report you are reading.

The main one being the automatic transmission. Some reports say automatic (of the non-dsg variety) for the initial production followed later by DSG, while this report suggests DSG. I have reservations about DSG clutch longevity in road cars let alone in an off-road vehicle.

The VW UK and DE sites (where it is available) list the transmission choices as Manual or Automatic.

The other interesting point I noticed on both sites is that the (new generation) TSI engines are specified as 95RON not 98RON minimum as before.

Welcome to VWwA idaho j:

All autos are autos no DSG in Tiguan's yet.

On the TSIs 95 RON rating, I have not read that.
May I ask where ytou read that just for my curiosity ? :D

I hope we get the Track&Field spec I think that would be great for the country folk although current reports say it won't come :(

On pages 12, 13, 14 of this brochure; http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/pdf/tiguan_brochure.pdf
(I had to save the pdf first and then enlarge it to read it) and also here;
http://www.volkswagen.de/vwcms_publish/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/de3/modelle/Tiguan/zahlen___fakten/technische_daten.html where you need to select the Benzin engines from the drop down box.

Page 2 of this http://www.volkswagen.de/vwcms_publish/etc/medialib/vwcms/virtualmaster/de/Models/tiguan/media.Par.0006.File.pdf shows all the engines together.

The note in the UK brochure says ultra low sulphur must be used to minimise fuel consumption but I think that applies to direct injection petrol engines in general so the NOx converter doesn't have to be purged too often.

No final specs are available from the VW dealers yet. I took the UK brochure I printed over and stated what I wanted. I do not want to wait in a queue similar to the Golf GTI queue .....

2.0T, 6 speed manual and 4-Motion .... hardly can wait after seeing the problems the FWD Polo's and Golf's have with getting too much power to the road .... :D

I got a Tiguan model sheet at the Bris motor show (signed up to get an option on 1st shipment) and it says the 147kw will only be Auto. Manuals are available on 125kw and TDi engines.

I queried VWA yesterday and they replied that the final specifications of the Australian Tiguans are not confirmed yet. I made it very clear that unless I can get a 147kw 6speed manual, I will be buying a product from another manufacturer.

We will see what happens .... :(

good luck sharkie let us know how you go... I think it might be due to not enough expected demand for the manual here, similiar to the Passat Wagon, although can;t see why they could do it as special order only, not sure whether there is extra costs in getting the manual certified etc, and availability to other rhd markets.

I've also been waiting for these to come out before making my mind up on whether to get a Skoda RS wagon or not. I also won't be interested unless I can get a manual 147kW (180kW on day two) version.

Here's a link to the Tiguan pricelist. There is no 147kW manual version. That's at least two customers they've just lost. :(
