There was a fella on here who had an Ibiza Cupra and had done a 1.8t conversion from the 2.0L 16v. Unfortunately i think it got crashed and he was looking to sell the engine/car, im not sure what happened. Hes the only person i know who has a 1.8t (golf and ibiza = same mechanicals).

That car/engine went to Sydney and is being used

You`d want an entire car or front cut mate.

Heaps of work, wiring would be the hardest bit.

I know as we are doing a 20VT conversion at the moment.

apologies for not replying to all your replies!

i live in rowville in melbourne.

does anyone know if ausgolfer is still selling that audi A3 half cut? ill send him a pm anyway, just wondering if anyone knew.

as to the wiring, ive been reading up on the Reflex Tuning 1.8t swap kit (http://www.reflextuning.com/mk3content/mk3products/swapkit/mk3swapkit.html) and i reckon ill definately go that way as i suck at comprehending wiring diagrams and such.

i think i half cut would be best. ive asked Volkspower here in melbourne for the prices on a few things but they dont reply which is seriously startin to anger me.

with the reflex kit, they also tell me the other things ill need to make it work like the vr6 MAF, throttle cable and radiator and pipes and a few other things which i can get separately.

ive sent Reflex Tuning an email and im getting really excited about it. they said with the full kit they sell and their intercooler kit, it makes around 200 hp with everything else stock. and the C2 software will account for any other mods you do to it like a bigger turbo or whatever.

i just wish my piggy bank would give me the go ahead with this. i dont think im going to be able to afford it for a fair while but im gonna keep researching it and when i do go ahead with it ill definately make a thread for it with many pictures :D

does anyone know where to get a front cut of a car with a VAG 1.8t around melbourne? ive sent emails to various wreckers but non of them say they can help at all. would i have to look at a vw wrecker? cos i dont have a clue where any are and volkspower havnt been of too much help. i think they think im just wasting their time. which for th next few months ya i would be but if they'd actually give me a hand i might actually use them.
anyway.
thanks alot

oh and something else the guys at Reflex said was the kit is very versatile, they said going big turbo you can easily make 300hp. HOW SWEET IS THAT!

be kind of a waste with my 6.5 inch wide wheels but still.

I reckon I know someone with a motor for you.

There's $2000 worth of parts there if you get the intercooler kit too. Plus shipping etc.

I think it unlikely that breaker would split the ECU and wiring from an engine and there would be very little market for them one their own.

It is possible to override the factory immobiliser and use all the std wiring.

Same power and no need for bigger injectors.

If you get a motor from an A3 or Golf GTI you don't need to hunt down a load of brackets and stuff to make everything work.

I imported an 03 Jetta 1.8T engine , trans and ancillaries from the US in 2006, with shipping ( mates container) and duty it cost me around $7000 aussie.

pretty well a complete front cut minus the bodywork.

There appears to be a good few 1.8T cars running about here, but i guess we dont prang em as fast as the UK/Europe and states..:D

keep searching, you'll find one.

what kinda places would sell a front cut of a vw? should i just be going to any old wreckers? or would i need to be looking at places that specialise a little more in euro stuff?

forget buying one from a shop/wrecker, just get one from auction.

here is your gem. its the best suited car that will ever come up on auction for you. its a stat write off and a standard k04 (bigger than all the others) turbo. http://www.manheimfowles.com.au/find_buy/power_search/?unit_key=73102_AU102351508-73102;detail_tab=vinfo;fulltext=s3;include_salvage =;salvage_only=1;state_all=1;model_all=1;rm=view_d etail now go buy it and do the project already! :D

I wouldnt buy the reflex kit, while it may seem easy for the wiring it works about the same to get someone in to wire a full standalone ecu or prob cheaper to get someone to wire in the old loom. That A3 seems like the perfect cut coz u will still get most of the interior and u can do a full dash/interior swap.

Keep us posted...

hey thanks for that link, thats just the kinda place i was lookin for!

OMG its got a 6 speed trany! im stoked.

how much would be expected for something like this? on average ofcourse.

god i just dont know. a customer came in today and was selling a pretty nice vr6 that is tempting me alot. i gotta try talk myself out of it. but i like the noise of his car so much better than any 1.8t ive ever heard.
i might go to this auction and see how much that sort of thing goes for though

It 4wd, I don't know if you can use the tranny in 2wd. I know they pull the haldex fuse to run the cars on a 2wd dyno. Not sure how that will go in the long term???
Better to go with a VR6 box and shifter.

crap yeah i didnt think about that...

i dont think the vr6 box bolts up to the 1.8t...i think you can use the gear set but you have to change the bellhousing...i think thats how it works. id rather just get a decent box that i dont have to mess around with different gears and such cos im lazy like that

h100vw

Yeah, you're right prolly needs to be a 4 cyl box like a Passat or Cupra. Will need a VR6 clutch to hold it all in.

Use an 02A box for a 1.8T. Same as the VR6 02J box but with the different bellhousing. Different ratios.

ive been wondering about thse transmission codes. where exactly on the box does it say 02A or J or M or whatever. because ive looked at work and they all have numbers like DLH or something similar to that. nothing in the way of 02a/j/m etc

like i assumed those codes might have only applied to america (since those forums are the only ones ive heard those codes talked about really) and ours must have been different

they're the same the world over... just the gearbox codes. you might be thinking of part numbers but those codes are definitely standard everywhere on all vw's.

Shteifen

do they say those codes on the boxes? i dont think ive had a really good look for them but i sure havnt noticed them before, and in the computer when i look up a car, even mine and look at the transmission details it doesnt say anything about 020 which i believe mine is, being a 95 GL

h100vw
08-04-2008, 09:27 PM
020 is a rod change mechanism type box, fitted in mk1s 2s and 3s, the 02A is a cable change box fitted in mk2 G60s, passats, mk3s inc 16V and VR6. The 02J is in the mk4 Golf, Jetta, the 02M is a 6 speed in the mk4, Leon etc.

The gearbox codes in ETKA refer to the box and its ratios.

ahh ok. makes more sense now.

i been lookin a little in ETKA but mostly in ELSA though i probably havent been looking in the right place as i think it should say... anywho
thanks for that :D
