I don't know if this is a "check your prices" post or a NRMA are jerks post. I know I might be stating the obvious for some but here we go anyway.

Just got a green slip renewal for the van in the post with a letter explaining why the cost has gone up which I suppose was there to prepare you for the upcoming reaming...

For reference:

2011 - $459.95 (GIO)
2012 - $503.97 (NRMA)

And the renewal this year with NRMA was $788!! WTF?

The real kicker is that if you go on the NRMA website and re-quote it comes in at $638, still a big increase but a huge difference to the mailed renewal. Now that just pisses me off. How many people out there would accept and pay what is essentially a sucker tax for those who don't bother shopping around?

Of course going to the MAA website and running the quote across all providers sees the same rate from the NRMA but down to $505 from QBE (from memory).

Motor Accidents Authority - Green Slip Price Guide Form (http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/)

For me the only reason I ended up with an NRMA green slip at all was to get the discount on car insurance, at the time it was worth the extra $50 for the saving on the comprehensive policy. It's worth noting that their comprehensive was also competitive last year. Seems this year it might see me moving companies yet again. Jerks.

Agree with you Aaron, NRMA are jerks. I have changed to QBE as I got a take it or leave it attitude at an NRMA branch at my renewal time. A good reminder to shop around.

i think you'll find that the NRMA policy may have a provision for at fault drivers.

Mind you its a moot point with new legislation being tabled recently.

Yep I got the same quote for my NRMA greenslip renewal, $788. I rang them, and they were exactly the same, "we don't price match, there is nothing we can do, blah blah". I actually have a multi-policy discount too!

When compared to quotes over $200 cheaper, I think NRMA are going to see a mass exodus this year. What are they going to do, probably put up their premiums to cover the losses lol

Yup +200 on two cars, went GIO that also have at fault cover...

I have no issue whilst there is meaningful competition about... just take your business elsewhere...

+15c for 98octane with them all colluding however...

I used to be with NRMA then they got too expensive and didn't cover the mods I was starting to do. Last year however they were cheaper than Shannons and are mod friendly these days.

To be fair when I left them a couple of years ago they really did have the "take it or leave it attitude". I went through a couple of different people too including their 'customer retention' (or something like that) people, none of whom offered me any discount or any extra's (and I had two cars, home and contents and Health insurance all with them at the time too) now they have one car policy and one green slip but that might just be changing very soon...

I had that issue.

Renewal came in at $648 from NRMA. I went on their website. It came in at $520 for a new policy. GIO came in at $460. I called up GIO and they said because I had only been with my current comp. insurance company for 1 year they wouldn't recognise my 65%NCB (wtf?) so it would be $870

So I called NRMA and got CTP for $420, the same price as last year.
