View Full Version : 2011 Golf GTI with SatNav. Doesn't seem to have MEDIA/MDI in?
The one issue I have had with my wife's GTI is that when we ordered it ( and waited 7 months mind you) we asked for "SatNav" We wrongly thought that this $2500 option would include bluetooth, or even perhaps..phone integration!
Alas no, zip, zero zilch. When we picked it up, and I asked about it they said..well there is a $1000+ dealership fitted bs option.. Yes I should of asked more questions, but ffs! Anyway, my Scirocco has everything I need, so I'm sorted, but the GTI is the poor cousin..
That said I thought I'd buy the Ipod/iphone cable to allow for iphone playback ( we both have Spotify Premium accounts).
This is what I found when I went looking where to plug it in....

One of these (http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-media-in-mdi-kit-usb-adapter-for-cars-with-aux-retrofit-5n0035342e,id364.html)
MDI was also an option that needed ticking.

You are kidding. FFS. These issues/options where never raised, never offered and never discussed.
Dealership is not worth a bucket of cheesy c*cks

If you want bluetooth for your phone, contact The Car Kit Company and get the Kufatec kit fitted. Cost me $800+ (can't remember exact cost might have been $860?) and it rocks. Fully integrates with the RNS 510 and people tell me I sound like I'm on the phone rather than using bluetooth. Pulls up all my contacts etc.
My R32 originally came with a dealer fitted kit, and that was crap. It worked, but only just.

I've never had any quality issues with my genuine (W7 system (which goes for only ~$300 from that same website). DIY guides are here: http://tinyurl.com/vwstuff
I've also retrofitted MDI (bought my car 2nd hand) - didn't do a proper OEM installation, just velcroed the box under my seat and ran the cord up next to where the seatbelt plugs in. The R would've had more options included than the GTI and other Golf's. With each new MY revision more things were also included standard in some cars as well.

are you located in sydney? I'm looking to sell my MDI under the arm rest thing. I want to reclaim that space to put things in there instead of the MDI that takes up all the space.

I'd agree with that. Easy DIY. Quality voice etc. I fitted mine and installed the mic in the centre slot by the rear mirror. You can't do that with the Kufatec as its a cheapo mic

+1 for buying the OEM kit from carsystems and installing yourself (or getting someone to assist).
Its a very easy install and results are better than the Kufatec kit.
