Good to see that VW has come to the party on capped price servicing.

Thanks Eaglen00b, although I'm guessing "crapped" price servicing is a typo and not an opinion being expressed :-)

Pity it's participating dealers only, rather than all dealers, but hopefully most dealerships will honour.

Cheers GippsCC. I've amended the link description.

LOL. Me thinks t'was a Freudian slip. I was thinking about the stories relayed to me by family and friends about "Capped Price" servicing programmes.

As for the VW Capped Price Servicing programme being available through "participating dealers" only, this programme is described as being available over the entire range of VW vehicles, not just the CC.

I'm basically looking at it this way; VW HQ has promoted their Capped Price Service programme on their national website. This implies an additional positive selling point as to why one should consider a VW for their next vehicle purchase. If my dealer says they are not a "participating dealer", I would have to query why that is, and if they still aren't going to budge, I suppose the worst case scenario is that I would simply take my vehicle to a "participating dealer" to be serviced.

Customers can (and usually do) vote with their feet. :)

The car market is (in my opinion at least) likely to get really competitive in the short to medium term since the European automotive market is in freefall, so manufacturers with an Australian presence would be jockeying for position to consolidate and strengthen their market share here. You're starting to see this with price revisions for facelifted or new models from MB, BMW etc. Combine this with new models from these manufacturers to plug "gaps" in the market.

I would suggest that VW (and by extension their authorised dealers) would instead be looking very hard at securing market share by becoming a bit more competitive.

Heck, even Land Rover is getting in on the act by retooling their factories to try and move into what's traditionally Toyota hilux/landcruiser territory in the (mining?) heavy duty work 4x4 segment of the market. Why? Because they need more sales!!! LOL.

While some argue about the merits of capped price servicing, it is extremely popular with consumers (myself included). You only have to look at Toyota's sales figures and satisfaction data to work that out. It provides certainty and allows potential buyers to understand the true cost of the vehicle being considered, so no wonder Volkswagen Australia has finally joined the growing number of manufacturer fixed price servicing schemes out there, for their recent models anyway.

And you're right about the need to be competitive right now. While we had a surge of new vehicle sales late last year, there ain't much happening right now, with some minor exceptions on new models.

I hope my local dealer participates, because I'll be taking it to one of the independent Volkswagen specialists otherwise. I, for one, dislike lack of transparency with pricing for a "handbook" service - it's a fixed service so it should be no secret, nor difficult to find out (otherwise you get the impression they quote whatever they think you'll pay lol).

Hopefully your local dealer is on this list :-

On another note, how's the new ride, GippsCC?

On another note, how's the new ride, GippsCC?

My CC arrived Melbourne on 8 April (if you look at the stickies in Tiguan forum, they have great link for tracking shipping - if you get your dealer to provide VIN once posted in their system following build finish at Emden), and was supposed to be ready at my dealer last Friday, but this has since slipped a week - probably not a bad thing as I'd like an uninterrupted week at home to apply my VX1 Pro coating, which due to travel this week wouldn't have been possible (better that my old Golf risks a door ding at the airport than my new CC lol).

Been driving an Audi A6 rental this week, and it'll be interesting to see how similar the MFD in CC is to the A6 (as I'd already driven the 2009 CC I didn't bother with a test drive on current model - the current model has an updated full colour MFD compared to 2009 model) [on an aside, I'm not a fan of Audi's curvy footwell in both A4 and A6 - less comfortable than Golf's spacious one].

Thanks Eaglen00b for participating dealers list - happy to see my local dealer (and quite a few others) is on list (talk about right place, right time to buy!). I saw in the motoring review pages that one of the journos reckoned it had cut some services quoted at $1-2K by more than half (apparently by moderating labour costs charges some used to price at the extreme end of the market). I note Golf TDI 60K service considerably cheaper now than what I paid!

And Volkswagen have also confirmed that capped price servicing is NOT subsidised by sticker price on new cars - so really win all round (except for some dealers who were pushing the market).

Will post pics on new ride once I get it into my garage :-)
