View Full Version : QLD Brisbane Euro Meet - 24th of March- Sunday Night - 6:30pm - Newmarket

Hey people,

Looks like its time for another meet, so lets try and spread the word about this one and get as many euros out there as we can. Because of the confusion and mix-up of the last meet at Tennyson, I thought it would be best to go back to Newmarket.

When: Sunday night, from 6:30pm until whenever you feel like leaving, 24th of March.

Where: Coles at Newmarket, 95-99 Enoggera Road Newmarket Queensland 4051, Under ground carpark. (which is actually on newmarket road).
We usually gather on the bottom floor. If you enter from the entrance shown in the pictures, follow the road and turn left to go down a ramp. Then turn left again to reach the meeting point.

What: Meet for ALL Euro's. Please invite your freinds. Bring your camera's. There are shops near by so please feel free to have some dinner.

Warning: Please remember you are representing the forum. Please do not bring anyone you think is going to act like an idiot, do not do burnouts, do not rev your engine to show off your new sic pod filter. We do not want the cops turning up to start defecting people.

And yes I just pretty much copy and pasted this from the August one I organised lol.

Invite whoever you like as long as they appreciate euro cars and don't mess around. :)

Don't forget to empty those storage cards and charge your camera batteries.

Cheers,

Rhys

Hey just an idea.. we had a little mini vagcom scan meet last night with 4 southside euro drivers and Calamvale Central could be another location if you want an alternative to Newmarket? Its got both a big outdoor/well lit carpark and a massive! underground carpark as well.

We could try it at the next meet after this if you would like. Personally I would like to keep it at Newmarket for this one just to be safe and if it has already be posted on other forums on the web, it might not get through that the venue has been changed.

Easily handle 50 cars, not mentioning if it rains, the uncover car park can also handle probably as much.

I can't speak for the rest of you, but I have spent a lot of time, effort and money modifying my Polo so it is fun to DRIVE. I turned up to the last meet, at Rocklea, Tennyson and at Newmarket. It was the first I've ever been to and it was boring beyond belief. I understand that sometimes it's nice to look at each other's cars, but I would really like to see these awesome cars actually driven like they should be. From what I can gather, you forum blokes are a bunch of pansies who would rather stare at each others cars than see them put through their paces.

How many of you have actually been to the track? Not just for a BBQ Breakfast, where you are warned not to drive faster than road pace, but to an actual track day?

Can we please, please go for a cruise over the local mountains, or the border ranges? Surely there's someone out there that actually enjoys the fact they own a quick car? Twice now I've tried to organise a night at the Willowbank test n tune, but not one person bothered to turn up.

It frustrates me so much to see the effort that has been put into your vehicles, only to see you fuss over tyre pressures, warranties and what type of LED bulb to install.

I'm sure that a large proportion of you will not agree with me, but if any of you feel like going for a drive, an actual drive, please get in touch with me because I'm as keen as a bean.

The 'happy laps' events that are on here are probably 90% of a track day. Some people time them through their smartphone, others choose not to. The big difference is obviously not being a race/competition. I would say I push my car to about 90% of its limits (maybe 75% on the brakes just because I don't want them to completely melt). I think the road speeds which we are told are really just so they aren't liable for any crashes caused by high-speed unless it is wet in that case I don't really go past 140km/h @ Lakeside (<- treat that track with respect). At QR in the dry, I've reached around 175km/h according to car speedo so probably about 165km/h irl. At Lakeside in the dry, I've reached around the 160km/h mark as I'm not too comfortable going too much faster than that at Lakeside. Bear in mind, my car is only a 1.6T with 155bhp (or 100KW per tonne).

If I'm honest, I'm more into perfecting/practicing racing lines and braking points etc rather then drags. I choose not to do proper track days because of money, the fact I only have 1 car and if something happens to that car I'm screwed for uni and work. Because of that, I don't think I'd push too much harder than at 'happy laps'. There are quite a few people that attend the 'happy laps' that also do proper track days.

I'm all for a mountain run like through the back of the GC or near Mt Nebo etc. that'd be great.

I;m going to agree with Rhys here.
Happy laps for me is about 90% of what i would push my car to if i was doing a proper track session so i don't see an issue with that sort of event.
Sure in the rain and with the amount of incidents they have had there recently we have been told to keep it at a slower pace but it's still almost double what you could do out on the regular cruises.

The whole point of the mixed meets (laps and hardpark once per month) is to give everyone a good chance to get to know other drivers.
If you get people who are not interested in track sessions and just want to find out about the cars and drivers and get to know people with similar interests it's good to come along.
Plus it gives people a chance to talk to other's about their modifications and even speak to the tuners.

If you want to organise a cruise over Mt Nebo you can do it on here and i am sure you will get a few people attending but on a public road, with a lot of flood/rain damage and frequent police presence i am not overly keen on the idea.
Also, most of the roads are limited to 80km/h so it doesn't give me a rush any more and i don't fancy the speeding fines (same price as a full track day) and the driving gets fairly aggressive.

Mate you do have some validity but ave to agree with another user that the execution was bad lol. Any mountian cruise ive been to have ended with a nice car making its way to be a coca cola can after going for a flight and not a drive. I think you have to go to the happy laps mate to test your car, i would love to do the same, time has killed me in the past but thats freeing up and will hopefully make one soon. The meets are like just to catch up and talk about your cars, drool a bit, talk a bit of shop and pretty much say hello to those who are thinking your way. If they want to go and talk about bulbs then so what? But like i say i see your point too so dont take it the wrong way, im taking it as constuctive even though im sure plenty wont. Mate ill be one of the first to be at willowbank when i get my Polo ready ( one day!!!) Each to their own suppose. I try to hide when i go to them for fear of question time but still dont mind a catch up from time to time

Car is all clean ready to go but the Severe thunderstorms warnings are coming in right now so i'm gunna hang off until i know what it's doing. Nothing for Brisbane but on the radar it's heading that way :(

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Warwick, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Coolangatta, Ipswich and Stanthorpe."

Gonna head to the pre-meet at Calamvale. If it rains I'm not going to Newmarket.

For those coming to Calamvale..if it rains we're gonna be parked at the underground car park.

All that liquid horsepower makes an 1100kg 200hp e30 a terrifyingly fun place to be...

Well on the last leg to get to my folks place from Compton road near calamvale, car engine cut out from water. Even though I kept on the accelerator the TCS kicked in and stopped my throttle ( car's fine now). After that, I made my mind up to just go to the folks place. The almost non-existent visibility was also dangerous.

We seem to have bad luck with these meets haha.

Good turnout all things considered, disappointing no Mk 3s, nor any of the fast Fords, nonetheless good show fellas.

My favourite would have to be the Mk2 minter.

I had no problems getting in through some thick rain on the Bruce Highway and Gympie Rd.
