Just a few thoughts on an additive I recently tried out.

My MK2 always seem's to have noisy lifters for the first second or two after start-up, nothing major, just a nuisance.
Found a bottle of this AW10 'antiwear' stuff, that seems to be endorsed by the 4wd guys, and gave it a go.

I've never been a fan of additives, but from the minute I added the stuff the engine seemed quieter?
And a week later I'm yet to hear that Tick tick tick on start-up.

It's pricey but supposedly can to diff's and boxes as well.

Anyone else tried it?

I'd be more inclined to experiment with oil viscosity. Try a synthetic oil that contains zinc.

Penrite 10w-40 with zinc currently being used.

I've moved away from the pen everyday synthetic to the penrite hpr 5/40 full synthetic myself. Still getting first morning start up rattle. Needs a pre oiler :-P

I've added this stuff at my recent oil change, also had tappet noise at start up and this seems to have quieten down the engine quite a bit. It's German made (not sure if this means anything :) ?):
