View Full Version : 125TDi is gone. Enter the 130Tdi

Just received notification from my local dealer that the 125 TDi is no more. They've upgraded the outputs on the 2.0L diesel to 130kW (+5kW) & 380Nm (+30Nm) power & torque.

The Germans have managed to squeeze a bit more performance and fuel savings out of that little 2L block.

Fuel consumption (Combined) drops from 5.7L/100km down to 5.4L/100km.

The change is effective from SOP Calendar Week 51/2012 and model code for the VW CC 130TDi is 3584VQ/13.

Price increase of $500 (plus GST, I believe) applies.

Overall, a most welcome change I think!!!! :party:

If it's now putting out 380Nm, that puts it over the 350Nm threshold VW has defined for the 6-speed DSG. Wonder if they're going to toughen it up, replace it with the 7-speed wet clutch (rated to 550Nm), or just quietly forget about the supposed torque limit...

good that they've been listening to customers... the old 125KW can be tuned to that anyways (as Pete - CVWC advised) as the only thing I hate about my CC is the lag on start...

I was of the understanding that the 350Nm threshold was attributed to a software limit in the transmission control module rather than an actual mechanical limitation. From memory, I believe there were also issues with the 7 spd at some stage too. Jerky trans, false neutrals or something to that effect.

However, these boxes (both the 6pd and the 7spd) have now been around for yonks, with presumably incremental improvements/revisions made along the way. I would like to think that whatever they're putting into these vehicles nowadays in Emden should, in my opinion, be a huge improvement on the original boxes both in NVH and reliability terms.

In any case, even with the upgrade to 130TDi the DSG transmissions still comes with a comprehensive 5yr/150k warranty, which isn't bad, but is still unfortunately well short of what the US, Russia and even China gets (10yr/160k). See http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2039417

Seems I spoke too soon - turns out my 125TDI ordered got upgraded to a 130TDI during the factory build (although my vehicle price also went up a little too - but not by a huge amount). I'm interested to see if my RNS unit is the old 510 or the new 800 unit when the car arrives next week.

I just checked the VW site and it's still the 6 DSG. So quietly ignoring the torque limit is the way they went :-P

The way I understand it is that the torque limit is only electronically limited not because of the components used.

This was taken from a reliable source in another post illustrating that what a gearbox is limited to and what they can handle are two very different things.

VW ran stock DSG transmissions in the new Scirocco race cars in the Nurburgring 24 hour recently & the cars reportedly ran ~500nm under race conditions & testing & all finished fine.

In the 2008 24h Rennen Nürburgring, the Scirocco GT24 finished 1st in it's class, managing 138 laps of the famous 25 km circuit, covering a distance of 3450 km.

However, handling 500 Nm over a race distance is one thing - doing the same over 5 years or 150 000 km is quite another.

It would be safer to assume that the stated torque limits are not arbitrary. The relationship curves between capacity & durability were sure to be considered by the engineers, amongst many things.

That's AWESOME! Bet you're stoked when you realised how close you are to delivery! Yeah.. there's a little bit of a price hike involved (Bout $500 or so, from memory). As for the RNS810 (I presume this is what you meant, there doesn't appear to be any info on a RNS800), have you heard anything which might suggest that this unit is going to replace the current RNS510?

I wish I were in your shoes at the moment. You've got less than a week now to pickup of your new ride, while I've still got 6 months, 27 days, 1 hour, 46 minutes left to mine. Not that I'm counting down or anything.:P

Yep RNS810 (just couldn't remember the exact model code at time of post). I think it'll still be RNS510 on odds, but Volkswagen doesn't always telegraph these changes. Either way I'll be happy enough, but new model nav system would be bonus - looks nice and is a bit larger.

The only thing bad about car delivery just about to happen is handing over the large bank cheque lol (at least it was off earning interest while I waited) - could have financed but ultimately more economical to just buy outright (I'm just not typically used to $50K withdrawals lol).
