Hi all,

I'm going to head up to Old Bar later this month in my '91 T3 (Homer). I have the centre row of seats installed and have built the floor up in the rear where the rear row of seats normally go giving me an entirely flat back section. Works really well. I can accomodate two people on a double matress here.

What I would like to get is one of those tents that connect on to the open tailgate to complete my luxury home away from home. Does anyone know where I could pick one of these up?

All the best

Ash

Ask these guys http://www.travellers-autobarn.com/index.shtml where they get their tents from...

Hi Ash - we're heading up as well in our white T3 - did you find an Aussie source for the tailgate tent?

Thanks Seano. Looks like just what I need.

Kmart didn't have any. It appears that they are very much out of fashion. Have not found them anywhere. Best I could see was a custom built one on eBay (sold) which wasn't quite right. I'll post if I find something.

Hey, welcome to the Big White T3 club Synchro91! I'll make any exception for you even though yours has funny transmission...:) Now...what will the two of us do at our next annual meeting???

Hi BigWhiteT3

Actually saw a tent on a T5 TRAKKA Camper just last weekend - perhaps it might be adaptable to the shorter T3 tailgate... looked quite neat.

Well, hopefully can get more than 2 together for the next meet! There should be a few Syncros at Old Bar. Harmut was almost able to bring his Tristar, but apparently not quite ready....

Ken from Central Coast will be there in his T3 Syncro...

Hi to you all, I'm busboy. We own an 85 T3 trakka, fully optioned with a factory tailgate tent. I was wondering if you have found a tailgate tent for your T3. Our T3 also came with solar panels, dual batteries, hot & cold shower in the rear and side awning that appears to have never been used. What a find!!!

sounds like a great find - any photos?

Unfortuantely I have not found anything like it - not sure if Ash did either...

Perhaps Trakka could advise if their new annexes fit the T3 well?

No I didn't find anything. I ended up buying a new 8 man dome tent off ebay for $85. Got me out of the woods for the time being. I'm certainly still interested in the tailgate option if it's out there though.

We managed to pick one up from trakka for our t5 but after speaking to an old employee of theirs he was surprised 1. they supplied us with one (we just walked in to the showroom one arvo, they didnt want anything to do with our partial conversion) and 2. it was only $580 ?!?

maybe it was old floor stock, its carry bag was a bit dirty.

we also just got a side awning with a screen room attachment though due to a busted pole we haven't tried it out yet. for the annex, screen room and some brackets to mount it to our roof racks it cost about $550 from traction 4wd in artarmon (sydney)

hope this info helps. the side awning isnt as easy as the rear annex to put up.

I was hunting for one of these for my T4.
But after looking into it, $600 or up for a tailgate sized tent or the same $ would get you a drive away tent from the bus stop (when they have them in stock).
The rear tent would be great but for me there is more benifits in a drive away tent that has more room inside.
Btw trakka didnt want to know me either!

I have a trakka tailgate tent for my T4 that I was thinking of selling on ebay. Has anyone got any advice as to how much I should sell it for? I've seen pictures of the T5 tent, but not one for the T3. Mine is blue which seemed to be the standard colour / material used by Trakka on their T4 products.

Hi Luke. Got a picture of the tent? Would it fit on T4 with barn doors? Thanks.

Hi Bob, no the tent needs a "lift up" tailgate as it forms the roof and structure of the tent. So no, it won't work with barn doors.

Bummer! Thanks for the reply.
