While doing an oil change on the Beetle today I found this broken breather tube. It runs from the oil filler housing and goes down under the inlet manifold to the top of the oil filter housing.
Is it meant to be a single piece tube or two pieces with a joiner/clamp? Is there anywhere other than a dealer that I'm likely to get one?

looks like it came off the hard pipe pictured under it in your pic...
aahh the pics here look very similar to yours, looks like a flexible rubber join between the two pipes has perished and gone astray:

Thanks mate - exactly the same problem.
Will bodge it up for now, and see what a replacement costs. Looks like it might be a PITA to get a new one in there though.

Welcome mate - it's VW, of course it's a PITA

It's a plastic pipe from top to bottom, the plastic flex joints always let go, it's a regular thing for these engines.
Fitting is relatively easy, remove sec air blower and possibly coil pack, then just feed the new tube through.
Also, make sure to get a new o ring to go with your new pipe.

Thanks. Good to know about the O ring too.
For now I've got it joined back up with a piece of ~20mm heater hose. Its a good tight fit once I trimmed off the remains of the flex joint.

I actually did this repair not too long ago on our 1.6L. It really wasnt that bad.
The bottom of the pipe actually has a clip to secure it. remove that and pull it out.
I think I removed 3-4 things? Took like an hour all up.
I bought the replacement piece from VW. It was like $50-60.
It had been repaired previously but the heat and oil fumes soon loosens up tape or whatever is holding it together.

Cheers - good to know the replacement isn't too much of a drama.
