Just received my VCDS, and seems to work ok with my Golf. On my Audi Q5 however (chassis type 8R), I am getting two issues:

1) The chassis type is being reported as 8T, not 8R (8T is for the A5/S5 models)
2) Possibly related to issue 1, is that I am getting:

01-Engine -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
02-Auto Trans -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
03-ABS Brakes -- Status: OK 0000
04-Steering Angle -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
05-Acc/Start Auth. -- Status: OK 0000
08-Auto HVAC -- Status: OK 0000
09-Cent. Elect. -- Status: OK 0000
10-Park/Steer Assist -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
15-Airbags -- Status: Cannot be reached 1100
16-Steering wheel -- Status: OK 0000
17-Instruments -- Status: OK 0000
19-CAN Gateway -- Status: OK 0000
2E-Media Player 3 -- Status: OK 0000
42-Door Elect, Driver -- Status: OK 0000
46-Central Conv. -- Status: OK 0000
47-Sound System -- Status: OK 0000
52-Door Elect, Pass. -- Status: OK 0000
53-Parking Brake -- Status: OK 0000
56-Radio -- Status: OK 0000
62-Door, Rear Left -- Status: OK 0000
72-Door, Rear Right -- Status: OK 0000
77-Telephone -- Status: OK 0000

I checked and I do have an engine fitted

Engine starts and runs just fine.

sorry this is in the VW forum, but I have a foot in both camps! (and figure I might get help more quickly here...)

Any thoughts on where to start? thanks!

silly question, did you have the ignition turned on? I don't mean engine running, I mean everything except that.

ive done that before and not realised I didn't have the key in the ignition.

Yes, key in the ignition and on. Engine not running though.

ok instead of using the 'auto' mode when you do the scan, hit the drop-down box and select your actual chassis type.

I wouldn't use 'auto' anything on VCDS. It's hit and miss at the best of times.
