Hey guys,

I recently retrofitted a new RNS510 (H Version) unit to my rocc, Compared to the old RCD510 or 310 or whatever is was, It seems when navigating through menus etc it takes 1-2 sometimes 3 seconds to respond to my actions, it also takes longer to boot up when turning on the car,

I was under the assumption that these units were faster. My old unit was lightning fast. I can understand that there might be more going on in the background processing wise but I just want to confirm if this is normal. Maybe needs a firmware upgrade?

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Kind Regards,

Toy

hi tony, I'm pretty sure my RNS510 operates without any noticeable lag. but I haven't had the RCD to compare it to. perhaps if we get a change to meet up you can compare your RNS speed to mine? it does take a couple of seconds to boot up though. maybe 3-5 seconds.

What firmware is running on the unit?
With latest those units are pretty much lag-free.
Obviously on first turning the car on it takes some time for all functions to be available, but once it has booted up should not be laggy. Older units are a bit laggy at times, but those latest ones are pretty quick.
If you are not running 4120, recommend upgrading first.

Mine sometimes seems to boot instantly and other times takes a while to get there. I assume this is to do with how long it's been since I last drove the car and if it's re-booting or coming out of sleep or whatever it does to save power when you're not using it.

Once it's up and running it usually responds instantly, although I will say that while it's booting it does sometimes seems to take a few seconds to switch modes... once up and running it's all pretty seamless.

On the odd occasion I get some lag but usually it's fine. Avoid using slow SD cards (go for Class 10) and don't put hundreds of MP3 files in the same folder. Number of POIs on display might also have a small impact.

The H unit comes with the 4020 firmware - I've got the same unit.

The RNS510 is def slower than an RCD510. I'm always surprised how instant the RCD510 is when switching inputs and menus. Mind you, the RCD has a lot less to manage (lower res screen and less functions).

You can reduce the boot time by unlocking the doors earlier (It boots up when you unlock the car or open the door).

My mother in law just bought a Tig, it came with 4120 from factory. H unit. Very fast and responsive with that firmware. Would recommend upgrading if you have an H unit.
