This thread is really appealing to a Niche,
But i'm wondering if someone who has this unit can help me out. I bought it about two weeks ago- had a go at installing it myself, it worked fine, but then started switching off every 5-10min. I'm not great with electronics so i thought i must have made a mistake in wiring it. I took it to get professionally installed- they found the same thing, it would stay on for 5-10mins then shutoff. They tested the unit and it was holding power fine when they tested it, it just wouldn't stay on.
Does anyone have any suggestions/solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Ask the seller. Sounds like a hardware / firmware issue.

Had the same problem with my d5101, im sure i posted a thread here earlier this year on how to fix it, was under the polo head unit thread, about 17 pages in or something
The fix was basically to wire up the red wire from the canbus adaptor to the +12v connection on the wiring harness, the thread had all the details, cant seem to find it
Once you make this change it works flawlessly, great head unit, just installed a sub and 4 new speakers, sounds good still, yet the sound quality leaves a little to be desired, still a great head unit

Thanks for that mate. Took those instructions to the car audio place today for them to do and they still couldn't do it- they think it's broken (bought it new two weeks ago) but it powers up fine like yours, just doesn't hold power.
There is a case of beer for anyone on here in Sydney who can help me install it (I am hopeless with electronics)
Let me know and i'll come to you!

Would definitely be up for that slab if you were in Melb, but to be honest its quite simple to fix.
I spoke with Eonon and they advised me its a problem with the canbus adapter and the way the wiring harness is configured.
I'll explain it as easy as possible and yes post me the beer :D
From the image below you can see the red cable going to the canbus decoder box, this allows the head unit to be powered whilst the car aux power is off but falls subject to the cars power saving mode which switches unused components off after 15 minutes.

You simply remove the red wire from the canbus decoder box and wire it directly to a cable that runs on aux power, I wired mine to the blue cable on the harness which provides aux power, when the keys off, it cuts off the power and the unit switches off.
this is the red cable im talking about

this is the final product, removed the blue cable and connected it directly to the red cable, this cable provides the consistent +12v for the aerial, we don't have a powered aerial so it so basically keeps the unit on whilst the cars power is on

You could do this yourself in 15 minutes :)
Btw howd you go getting the unit to mount flush in your dash?

Mine is far from flush unfortunately.. and because of this it makes quite a lot of noise when driving particularly on hot days. sticks out 2 or 3mm also.. plus the radio reception is very poor compared to the factory unit.
BUT I use it all the time for the bluetooh both for playing podcasts from my phone and to make and receive calls and for both of these it does a very good job.

Just upgraded to a Kenwood DPX-U6120 from the eonon, after upgrading the amp and the front speakers twice! I couldn't work out what the problem was, on random days, certain songs it would sound rubbish!
Un pleasantly harsh highs with a lack in bass clarity, tried bloody everything to keep this unit as it had all the features but unfortunately its sound quality is absolute rubbish :(
The Kenwood unit is amazing, sounds a million times better and actually fits in the dash, I just need to find the correct fascia plate.
Lesson learn't, don't buy cheap Chinese crap if your after sound quality.

Did listening to my setup add to your motivation?
Really glad you're enjoying the Kenwood sound enough to not regret the lack of GPS

Certainly did, best decision I think I ever made with this setup, I recon kenwood make some of the better head units out there, this one actually looks stock once you customize the colors

I remember Kenwood as being pretty poor, but brands change their market all the time in audio.
I'm a fan of Eclipse, but they have some cheap gear out there as well. Alpine has maintained a pretty good name in amps, not my choose for speakers / subs.
I'm liking my Eclipse unit, due for a small sub soon.
OMG! ok got this unit for my gf who now has my polo gti. Put the unit in hooked it up like some of the other guys here on the forum and yep up and running. What frustrated me was the fact we lost the polo's ability to turn the unit off and unlock the doors when you take the keys out of the ignition. The doors unlocked once you turned the head unit off. Anyone else had this scenario??
So I took it to Strathfield car radio and they prodded around with a test light as they couldnt understand as to why I had to hook it up the way I did for the unit to stay on. after they tested it i hooked it back up the way I did originally with the red ACC wire to the Blue with the white stripe wire and now it wont switch on. There is power to the unit I know that for sure it just will not turn on.
I've emailed Eonon so I'll see what they say but for mine I'd buy a name brand unit next time where its pretty much plug and play.

make sure the power to the unit is hooked up directly to the AUX power in this picture and not going through the canbus decoder box.
http://imageshack.us/a/img339/2874/wiringt.jpg
This way it will turn on and off with the keys, if its hooked up through the decoder, it will stay on with the car and switch off every 15 mins due to the power saving relay.
Hmmm heavily frustrated now. When I connect it the way you have described above the system works but it does not turn off or on when I do the same with the car??? it also does not allow me to open or close the car with the FOB its only when I disconnect the AUX cable am I able to use the FOB.
Anyways put the stock radio back in and still have lost the feature of the radio turning off and the doors unlocking when you take the key out.
I'll email EONON again but I suspect I'll have no luck once again.

Thinking of changing over the D5101 in the missus polo soon, the lag on the ui (particularly gps) is getting a little annoying, so thinking about replacing it with the android based Parrot Asteroid Smart (Can pick them up for roughly $550 on ebay)
Parrot - Support parrot-asteroid-smart (http://www.parrot.com/au/support/parrot-asteroid-smart)
To install would it be pretty much the same deal as the Eonon? ie. plug in through the canbus plug, then route the Aux power directly as your pic? If it's just one wire to splice I'm thinking of doing it myself rather than taking it to an installer, anything more complex than that and I'll end up routing the horn to the window switch or something

Have read on other Forums that these Eonon units could best described as far from perfect.

As stated in the last post on the previous page where the poster had swapped out his Eonon for a Kenwood unit..

Yep if you want a decent unit, buy a brand name unit, these Chinese knockoffs all have terrible sound quality, think about what you are doing with the unit 99% of the time :) 90% of the features are useless when driving.
Changing the unit was probably the best decision Ive made for my setup, don't even miss the GPS as I use an external one when needed, or my phone.. Can also note the kenwood above supports android phones with UPNP storage (like a usb key) :D
