what is everyones opinion on those?
i was trying to find some info on conversions, with no luck

what i wanna t know is would it work on our 2.0 8V engines, how efficiently?

any info on this would be helpful

thnks

I've heard they are quite fragile. Rebuilds required every 60,000km/miles?

i think you would be better off with a supercharger off a MR2 :)
as ray ray say, i have also heard of their fragility

In Australia you had better think toyota s/c from an MR2. On / off switch is also an option.

yeh, i just though that would be easier to fit one of those on the car, they r smaller in size and all
is there any place in syd that does this sorta jobs, i would like to see what they have to say on how to do this

Standard pullies on a G (78mm) run at about 70% of its maximum rotation before it can go out of balance. I think the max rpm of the G is around 15k.

Smaller pullies require more regular rebuilds. A pulley smaller than 65mm can throw the charger out of balance if motor is reved above 6K and is then more likely to explode. Stay within 68mm + pullies, charger should be ok if motor is not reved to high.

As for unreliability concerns, it pays to have a good air filter to stop dirt entering the charger making a grinding paste in the charger.

I see you have a nice setup in ur mk2, is it an original G60 or u did the conversion?
what im concerned about is mounting of the charger, obviously needs to be dead set aligned up with perfect angle to the driven pulley/axle
also, would the fuel delivery present a problem, would I need to play around with fuel re mapping or even bigger injection or stronger pump?

cheers mate

good lookin engine bay :)

G laders are not as efficient as some other types of superchargers. And not as reliable.
Personally I'd save for a twin screw as they're the most efficient(positive displacement). As machining technology has improved the efficiency of screw type charges has really picked up and maintanece issues has gone down. That said they're still more expensive to buy.

If mounting is an issue people usually choose the centrifugal type, you see lots of those on mk3 vr6's in the UK. But they're not a positive displacement type meaning they act like a turbo and they suffer from a lack of low down torque.

Efficiency of the G is rated at about 65% which to me isnt to bad from that era. Capable of producing up to 15psi with a 68mm pulley.

As for the twin screws, they would be great and possibly 80% efficient. Bloody loud too.

Check out Bahn Brenner, maybe there's a twin screw setup for you MK3

Heard of lots of failures with these too, not sure exactly what though. Warranty is a bit of a tricky one too - most end up spending twice the amount getting it fixed or a replacement. Heard that the Neuspeed s'charger is more reliable though. Again, my knowledge in this is totally from reading other forums.

Would the Bahn Brenner MK2 type not fit the MK3 8V ?

Would a cross flow head bolt onto our blocks without to many hassles? Starting to think when Im off my p's my golf could do with a supercharger...

Yes they do. I think new beetles have cross flow heads, so if you ever see one in nick a part, just stick it in your pocket j:

For those kits and the amount of money involved would it not be cheaper to buy a 1.8T motor and drop that in?

The toyota SC14's go for around $400 (roughly?) but dont forget other costs too.

Yes it would be cheaper to do a 1.8T swap, and I know someone (ie me) with one for sale j:
