My Up! arrived today at VW.

Pick it up next Thursday. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Booked in for gloss black vinyl on the roof and tints. Waiting for H&R's to come and then look at some dished wheels

So much for a daily....

Pics!! Especially once the mods are done. We're getting done 10 spoke metallic black 15" wheels. The black roof would look mint!

Congrats on the Up!

Heard from a reliable VW source the other day that a GTI version of the Up! is on it's way. No details/specs yet.

How legal are 9inch wide rims on a up!?

How legal are 9inch wide rims on a up!?

9"s are not legal on most bigger cars :)
Where are the photos? slack...

I love the Up. Had a thorough look at it at the motorshow. Smart and intuitive looking car. There is a 'GT' version coming soon.

Thanks to Balkanac and Bucko for the trail fit for the Borbets and the assistant in "lowering" it for the photos. Going to go 7.5 all round. Springs going in next weekend hopefully.

they'd fit at the back with smaller tyres :D

No it isn't. That was just a trail fit to see how 9" runs. Going for 7.5" instead.

I doubt 7.5 inches are legal either.

Whats the widest rim listed on the car's tyre placard? I think the largest rim on an up is 16x6. Therefore you would most likely be limited to a 7 inch width rim.

Yeah 7.5" aren't legal either but to get any decent rim I gotta go wide. Thet are passing MOT in the UK with 7.5 and 8s so there shouldn't be a problem.

No prob mate, car looks great on borbets, both are squarish :)

tonymy01
29-10-2012, 03:51 PM
It isn't just width, it is offset. Every rego time for my old Datto 1600 I would have to put on stock rims, because the old kidney style rims that were probably on since the car was only a few years old added 1" to the track (wheel centre to wheel centre) which is not legal as they claim it puts undue stress on bearings and screws steering geometry.
The silly thing is if the rims were 0.5" wider (towards the middle of the car) the track would have passed.

balkanac
29-10-2012, 06:52 PM
these were ET15, so if he goes for ET25, 7.5 and a bit of camber should be fine. They look awesome on the car, up! has sharp lines just like the wheels and i think they would be worth it

I was messing around with the headlights on our Up! last night (fitting some LED replacement DRL lamps) and accidentally shorted the terminals inside the lamp holder, and blew a fuse. The fuse box location is in an absolute bastard of a spot, and it doesn't have a fuse layout diagram to find which is the right one, so here I am at 10pm huddled up upside down in the most uncomfortable position ever, pulling out every last fuse to find which one had blown. Haha - that was not fun! But eventually got it sorted. Ended up leaving the stock bulbs in for now until I do some more tests on the LED lamp.

Update:

Springs going in this weekend. Ordering Borbets next week and have it booked in for a vinyl wrap on the roof, lower rear bumper next week too.

Coming along well. Had the car for a week now and its so fun to drive for a daily. Get lots of looks in it in Perth as there isn't many here yet. Love the little 3 cyl hum too.

I don't know. How is it done? How much was the roof rack? I'm looking at getting the arm rest from SEAT and some other parts. Doing rear wiper delete this weekend too.

polo_spec_d
01-11-2012, 02:40 PM
I can't access the other up! forum from this computer but when I do I'll post a link.

Ah ok I think I will leave it just with the 35mm drop and get KW's after, as it is still a daily and don't really want to be hammering the underside as it is not protected at all and its sitting quite low with that air dam on the front. I will post pics on Saturday of the up with the H&Rs in on the stockies. Also have got a heap of silicone hose to make a new CAI for it and some pipe for a exhaust set up. Might even give BASTUCK in Germany a call an see if they can do something.

ill wait for pic of h&rs,
getting them reset seems a little scary, not so much for scrapage but for steering/ suspension parts bottoming out.
then have wasted 340 dollars.

that arm rest just looks like it does not belong there.

It looks alright I think. I think the Up! handles really well for a ultra mini and with the new springs will just make it abit more tighter. Was keeping up with a 6R Polo last night through a heap of round abouts. Keep the little beast in that power band and it moves. The 6R polo driver said it was cocking it rear wheel on the tight stuff lol. GREAT LITTLE CAR!!! Loving IT!!

Sadly not small enough. The wifes Smart car fits in a neat little spot in the backyard, fenced off by bricks.
The up! is a full meter longer, so it won't fit in :(

I'm interested to hear why you think it seems tacky and gimmicky? Out of all the compact cars in that category it seems to me like the least tacky and most practically equipped in the class.

When I think tacky and gimmicky I think Hyundai Veloster, or Hummer H3

Have you seen the Rally version of the Up! the Skoda citigo S2000? Looks mean!! Also they used the Up! in the ROC this year :) Such a awesome little car. I'm starting to think of going for a 16" 7.5 ET25 wheel like the OZ racing super turismo GT. Give it that rally look like I did with my POLO TDI. This car reminds me of the Polski FIAT so much.

I leased a renault megane diesel in europe and when i picked it up it had 8km on it. The factory book said the first service should be done in 2 years or 30,000km which was a bit long for a diesel i thought.

A bit of drop, but not soo much that it looks like its dragging.
Perfect gap around the tyre.

Just needs the wheels to compliment now.

Yeah the drive is awesome now, no body roll now is medium to hard corners which is good and the ride is still very comfy. Yeah the roof line sits lower than my sisters cruze so pretty happy with that. Yeah waiting for the wheels....and that gap will be even smaller with the wheels.

Also the car is almost empty so missing the weight in fuel there too.

Not a pleasant job to do either. the front setup is a......the strut clamp that houses the bearing was near on impossible to split.

Loving the Up! at the moment. Almost 2K on it and it hasnt missed a beat at all. Love the handling now on the H&Rs.

One gripe I do have is the pedals dont have a proper rubber feel to them so if my shoes are wet they slip of the pedals very easily and can be quite dangerous.
