We've had a sudden blast of freezing weather here in the Adelaide Hills, even a bit of snow! So, we decided to get a (hopefully) final trailer load of firewood for this year. We had not used the Yeti's towbar and light plug, so it was with a degree of trepidation that I hooked up our ancient trailer.

OK, the ball coupling was the right height. Next, the plug. The 13 pin socket on the car mated with a short cable which finished with a flat socket. The flat socket fitted another short cable connected to a 7 pin plug, and the trailer connected to this! And it looked like The Knee bone's connected to the Thigh Bone, the Thigh Bone's connected to the Hip Bone, etc. And it all worked! Now hear the word of the Lord!

The rear parking sensers recognised that a trailer was connected and switched themselves off, and with just under a tonne of red gum in the trailer, the Yeti performed faultlessly up some steep hills and along a nice straight bit of highway at the legal limit. The distance was too short to establish fuel consumption, but the computer showed an average of 7.1 l/100km.

The adapter cables stow in a vinyl bag alongside the spare. It was encouraging to find that the arrangement worked perfectly first time! Which is more than can be said for the Bluetooth - the car side of the system is not working and the Dealer is booked to lay his healing hands on it in the next couple of weeks. Apart from that, all is well. (Let's hope Solitaire's VW/Skoda service is a bit better than their Land Rover workshop!)

How do you find the 225/50R17 tyres on dirt ???

We've done only about 3000km. so far, but we got home last night after a few days in South-East of SA and travelled on a lot of unsealed roads. There were no problems with traction or grip, but the roads there were sandy, and although corrugated and potholed in places, there were no loose stones. Next Autumn we intend to travel the Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks which have a lot of stoney, rocky kilometres and the risk of sidewall damage is high. It will be interesting to see how the tyres perform - past experience on those tracks with the Discovery3 on 17 inch Goodyears was disasterous and even with Cooper ATM's fitted we still had occasional star fractures on the sidewalls.
