P-slots

What are the differences between the Mk1 P-slots and Mk2 P-slots? What are the corresponding part numbers? What year/models did the P-slots come out for the two respective cars? Just curious.

The P's are different sizes, bigger ones on the MK1 fitment which came out on the Campaign. The MK1 style also had the word Pirelli embossed in the cap where the MK2 caps were blank.

As mentioned in the other thread, the MK2 number starts in 171 and ends in AA. My ETKA shows that the mk1 wheel is no longer available so the number is no longer listed. Usually there is a date stamp on either wheel and the MK2 ones would be from late 84 onwards by my estimation.

I had a mate who had a very early MK2 GTI which came with the AA wheels as std.

Mk1's only came out on the Campaign edition. Different spacing between the Slot's as indicated

The campaign model was fitted with 14" Pirelli alloy wheels. Similar wheels were also available for the Mk2 GTI, but you can tell the difference in two ways. The Mk1 wheels have larger P's (the gap between P's on the mk1s is 7mm, on the mk2 wheels it is 10mm) and the centre caps on the mk1 should have the word 'Pirelli' stamped on them. You can also tell the difference between the two rims by looking at the part number stamped on the rim, after removing the centre cap. The original mk1 rims have a single 'A' at the end of the code, Mk2 rims have an 'AA' instead.

This is the rare authentic Mk1 Pirelli P-Rim, the gap between P's is 7mm and the 'Ps' are slightly larger.

I have also seen 15 inch P slots and they were one of those holy grail things at GTI International in years gone by.

I also saw some 16 inch ones fitted on a 7 series BMW while I was in Kuwait in the mid nineties. I was tempted to leave the car on bricks :)

Do the P-slots have a closed face? What I mean is, are the P's holes through the wheel or just indents? I've always thought they were holes but the pic of the P's in the Mk2-issue P-slots look curved in.

When you say "these are not correct for the campaign", what exactly do you mean? Seeing as you haven't mentioned any size changes (assuming they're both 14x6 ET38 and 4x100), the Mk2 P-slots should still fit the Mk1?

He means that they fit but are not original for the car. From a car spotters point of view.

In fact as both wheels have a 171 part number you could contest that they shouldn't be fitted on a MK2...
