At first yes but slowly slowly it'll grow on me probably

I remember the first Mk6 Golf that I saw on TV and I hated it compared to the MK5, 1.5 years later I'm driving one (I saw the GTI and it's interior which was great, then realised the normal Golf could go quite fast in it's own right (twin charger) and with the right options could look just as great inside.

I think when you actually see it in the flesh you may have a completely different opinion.

When I was considering a VW, I was comparing Mk6 vs Mk5 Golfs in photos and I kept thinking gee why did they stuff up the mk 6 the front of the mk6 looks ugly, but when I actually compared them side by side in the flesh my opinion completely changed

I like the evolution in the design and I am sure it will grow on me as the Mk6 did.

What I find with with Mk6 is I like it from all angles, and I suspect the Mk7 will end up like this as well. Most other cars always seem to have an awkward angle in their make-up..

Did you all catch the section of the UK car buyer review that talked about the flat folding seats? I recall that this was one of the supposed top priorities for golf 7.

At first in the demo in the video i thought they failed big time, but then saw how one can raise the floor of the boot and snap it into place.

Then i thought... WOW!

Interesting to see (around the 4:40 mark) Mk6 and Mk7 Golfs being built on the same line at the same time. And at around 7:50 you can see US-market Mk6 GTIs at the quality checkpoint next to the new 7s.

Ausi S3 would be better in that comparison instead of the GTI, but there was some nice footage of it there. Another obvious plug for the soundaktor when you compare the interior engine noise to the exterior.

The AMG looks extremely competent but then does that mean and legal road speeds you can't have any fun with it??? (besides beating everything at the lights)

IIHS (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) who do lots of crash testing have released their video of the US Mk7 GTi in the small offset crash (which is a 25% offset crash that shows up lots of cars for having poor structures and being built for the 40% overlap test only). Golf comes out as Good, their highest rating.

I've been inspired by a North American owned GTI that was satin white wrapped (original car was white as well). It looks really good, but the amount of wrap I need is close to $1k delivered so I'm wondering if it'll even be worth it. Probably not.

There are better photos later on in the thread. The satin finish is weird. Gives that matte look without losing the shininess. There is a video at some point in the thread where he is trying to demonstrate the noise change from a GFB DV+ (I think) and the wrap effect can be seen more clearly but I can't find the specific page at the moment (plus I'm at work lol). The whole build thread is quite impressive. Serious attention to detail.

Thanks Matt for this information, really good thread, I was just curious to see how a white matt car could look like, it looks good but I rather spend that money in something else in my car, I like my shinny finish, if I was going to wrapp something I would probably do the rest of the roof to all black and a few details in the car not big deal.

Thanks for digging up the photos and video! The OP goes into serious detail fixing rattles and making tiny changes I would just not have thought about. Certainly a few things I'll be looking out for with my car.


Are you planning in wrapping yours?

I'm thinking about it, but it'll cost close to $1k to do it myself. There's not many complicated panels on the Golf's so it wouldn't be too difficult. I think part of the appeal of the car above is that he de-badged it as well so it looks very clean. I'm not a fan of de-badging so I wouldn't do that, and it's possible part of the satin effect would be lost as a result :???:

I think I'd rather actually wrap all the black parts in gloss black and leave the car gloss white perhaps, but then these parts would be much harder to wrap. I do have the tools to wrap (yay late night drunken purchases) so I'm sure I'll do something along those lines eventually.

Who knows. I might have another drunken splurge and end up with a thousand dollars worth of satin white vinyl wrap lol.

On another note, the turbo muffler delete sounds great. I note the APR product is $280. I could probably have my own machined from a single piece of titanium for less than that. Would need a big billet though, and heaps of wasted material. Question is should I even bother :confused:
