Here's a series of images comparing the Mk7 (left) to the Mk6 (right). Check AUSmotive for the larger versions. (http://ausm.tv/1wx)

Very good comparison

You can see the much tighter lines around the rear hatch region.

I really think this new Golf is like a MK6.5.

It's too similar, it's a shame cause my next car I won't fork out all the money to get something that looks the same as my previous.

Kind of looks like an "Americanised" version of the Golf.

So you're saying the Mk7 looks just like the Mk5, then. The same argument was used when the Mk6 came out as well.

Usually have this discussion with my wife when the models change, can she tell them apart. This is this first time when even I (who does follow this closely) would be hard pressed to tell, especially from the front. I know it is different underneath and VW want to keep classic lines etc but if you change your car, you do want it to look at least a bit different don't you?

Stan

looks really similar, but as you look closer the lines are changed, different trim etc.
Certainly wont be able to swap any mk7 stuff onto your mk6 should you want to update lights etc...

cool comparison, thanks

I haven't seen many pics around of any of the Reflex Silver Rs, so I thought I'd take a couple today :)

I know Silver is a boring colour, but our Polo is yellow. So I wanted something a little less noticeable!

Had it for 2.5 weeks now and have already put on 1,100kms.

This is a great colour! This or the Lapiz blue are my personal favourites for the R. I still can't make myself like the Limestone Grey, or the black for that matter (the black conceals what few visual accents the car has)

I quite like the chrome/grey highlights as a finish on the GTD as well. Makes the xenon option with 'the line' more palatable as well, a la Golf R.

A couple more really bad phone shots. Better pics to follow off camera in due course, hopefully got a cruise or two coming up with some good locations to choose from.

One thing I do like on the Mk7 is the more squat rear end, it's been criticised in some quarters but I am a fan. And I see it a lot as its visible through the rear glass door at work.

The Austins also work a whole lot better than the tired Detroits, but like Lemonskin I am planning a change already.

I bought my Mk6 CSG 2 door second hand with boy racer wheels and ended up fitting some repro mk7 wheels similar to the factory ones above. The body styling on the mk6 isn't as angular as the mk7 but I think it works well. For $800 I can't complain.

Also lowered and APR exhaust, among other things :P

Hi Anduril and Kenny,

I took the photo of the bridge last Friday. It was one of the best sunrise I have seen. I loved it so much that I photoshop the car onto the the image. I should have mention it. That is the Wollaston bridge in Western Victoria.

I do not drive the can in auto mode. After having a manual R. I find auto mode pretty boring. I use the paddles all the time now and love it.

your media screen is huge! why?

That's the Discover Pro (with an 8" screen). That option is not offered in Australia (unless you buy a Skoda). :(

Very nice in that colour. Just back from a few weeks in NZ. It must hurt to pay as much as you do for your new cars over there. New Golfs were more than 50% more than they are here, especially in the cheaper versions.

In my experience, after test driving one of the new Golf R’s the other day, they go pretty hard. The number plates sort of suit it, if you ask me.

Yes it does hurt when we (NZ) are being fleeced by around 20-40% more for the same cars and on parts / options.

VW are imported into NZ by European Motor Distributors who not only enjoy a healthy monopoly, European Motor Distributors are also part of the Giltrap group. The Giltrap group are also VW dealers.....

So, monopoly, price fixing and conflict of interest - Welcome to corrupt New Zealand, land of the great long rip off.

My next order (Highline with options) which is now due in September after being ordered in January (9 months wait) costs more than the UK spec GTI.

Unfortunately there is little choice.

Many thanks for posting these, that car certainly looks good and gives me confidence in my (our) choice of colour / options. Mine is due September after my order must have fallen off Helmets desk & found 5 months later under a pile of bratwurst

I think we both ordered in Jan?

You've got a very nice looking mk7 there, I hope it serves you well.

What is the issue with the exhaust tips? I've popped (whacked with rubber mallet) yeti tips on my first Mk7, they went on fine but do need a bit of force.

Are you getting any accessories for your mk7?

I only had to wait three months, I was told late august when I ordered in April. My wait was unbearable so I can't imagine having to wait as long as you! That's terrible.

I'll take a couple more photos in a more natural light as I know how hard it is to get photos of durban and xenons on pearl black non GTi's on the internet lol. The colour is beautiful!!! I've gone from a nimbus grey polo which was quite a classy colour... But black really looks great on this model especially with the chrome bars you get on the GT and lights :)

3 months! damn!!! that hurts lol. I'm getting to the stage of complaining to VW but I hate having to complain, better things to focus on in life...like.......nah, it isn't working...GOLF!

I've been stocking on loads of detailing goodies for when mine gets here, snow foam lance, wheel sealant, decontaminating products etc. by the time it arrives I'll own a shop load of products.

I've accumulated quite a load of bits during my wait -

OEM rubbers mats,
OEM Mud Flaps,
Yeti Exhaust Tips,
OEM Pedal caps,
OEM Cargo net,
Thule Roof Rack,
Euro Plates.

The hardest part about the wait is having to see a mates new Giulietta Sportiva each day, that was the car I was going to buy if I passed on the Golf, I could of been driving it for 8 months now...

Haha. . .oh man this is worth the wait. I can't stop smiling. I can't stop being in work. . .and looking out the window in the distance at it!!!! It's creeping me out lol. It's so much faster than my Polo . . I really didn't think 150PS would be that good but it blows me away (considering my last one had just 70PS) . . .no doubt petrol heads would laugh at me but i'm so happy with it's power. It looks really great. . .though it's VERY shiny at a distance - yet when I get close there's a layer of brown dirty dust all over it!!!

I'm going to snow foam it tomorrow. . . .then apply Collinite (i'm sure the dealer waxed it - but I want to do it for myself). . .then dry it and then demon shine it.

I LOVE MY CAR.

I feel like Tom Cruise did when he jumped up on Oprah's sofa and declared his love for Katie Holmes.

Looks awesome. Can you share any details on the side skirts and looks like there's a front lip too?

Is this question directed at me? If so, the car is completely stock.

Nice! What tint did you end up with? Hopefully picking my white GTI up next week and it won't be very long until it gets the 3M treatment at all.

Thanks!

Was gonna wait until I got the thing detailed (this weekend) before posting pics, but that shot makes the tint look dark as!

Tint is Midnight Express from Tint-A-Car, (on special for $295 fyi).

Looking good! I'm getting some Mercedes A45 vibes!

Can you upload a high angle rear shot to look at the spoiler? Thanks!
