I just thought I'd share a bit of my excitement with you all. I've just been asked to do an extra 18 hours of overtime (36 hours of pay) for the week. By my calculations, that will secure me more than enough to get my chip. Bwahahahahahahaha

Here lies the problem....

I need to race down to the bank on pay day and stash the money away before the other half relises my fatened up pay packet and then goes and blows it all on me (read: whats mine is theirs and whats theirs is theirs..)

Hmmm. I think if I buy some flowers or chocolate on the way home friday then I should be let of the leash on the Saturday long enough to go and get it done.

I'm keen to get a dyno done before and after so I can oggle over the power gain even when I'm not driving. Can anyone recomend a place in Vic and how much should I expect to pay for a run?

flowers and chocolates do it everytime for chicks but girls know there's somethings up when you bring it home, cos you must be sucking up for something j:

Weltmeister the Porsche Specialists in Vic. I've been quoted a price of $1100 for the Giac program. It's a personal choice and I'm sure you all have your opinions but this was a very fair quote IMO.

Let keep this clean guys.

Haven't been there yet (next week) but Dean at Volkspower use Peter Fitzgerald Racing Services in Box Hill (03 9897 1555).
He said they've also got charts for pogs in various states of tune.

Quote from GIAC's website:

GIAC performance software for the 2000 Golf®/Jetta® 1.8T smoothly delivers a 40-50 hp and 50 ft-lbs gain.

I'd realy like to get the car dyno'd before and after so we can see the difference just need to find someone independant to do it...

My heart is beating with excitment, my wallet is starting to bulge, I have finished off todays rashion of 2 minute noodles followed by a couple of vita weats and I have an apointment this afternoon with Dean from Volkspower to hand over my beloved Smurfet to be transformed into Pappa Smurf!!!

Look out Gargamel!!!

Being one of the older style 1.8T's (non drive by wire), my ECU will then be transported overnight up to Brisvegas to the loving hands of Guy H where he'll give it a good masage over and then sent back to God's country/Mexico (depending on what state your in).

Hopefully I'll have it back on Friday afternoon, ready for me to take it for a good spin to the office on Saturday.

Woohoot!!!

Yeah, definately let us know how you go!
I'm also looking to get the APR chip. I was planning on booking it in at Volkspower in the next couple of weeks... Just a quick question though... How come it has to be sent to Brisbane? In another thread I posted before I bought my car, I was told no MK4 Golf's were DBW in Aus? Does that mean any MK4 ECU's done at Volkspower have to be sent away?? I don't think I could stand the wait!!!

Also, do you get the EMCS via the cruise? The APR Australian site says something about it being available only to DBW cars?

hey sierra...

If you have a non dbw car (like me), you can’t change programs via the cruise control as you say. i know my gti (2003) has a cable throttle, *shrugs* about the 2004 model, but yeah someone did mention in anotehr thread that all mk4s here are non dbw.
I was also going to go for the apr chip. But when I went to the dealer, I was put off a bit by not being able to change program back to stock, if I ever need to…

Here in Adelaide, it also has to be sent to Brisbane for soldering. He said this was the case due to warranty issues for the chip, if something isnt’ soldered right its up to apr to fix it. Or something along those lines anyway… Oh, and 3 days was too long for me to be without my car, so I have put it on hold for now!! Looking at revo now to see if it’s less hassle, as I should be able to change back to stock mode if required, and hopefully wont’ be without the car.

What a bummer!!!! I really liked the idea of being able to switch the chip off for when my GF drives the car (which is most days) and when I get my hands on it.... well... :D

heh... good stuff...
i'm still yet to drop by the revo dealer to see if switching back to stock is doable (using their little serial port device thingy), if it is then i'm in...
all the brands seem pretty much the same performance wise anyway, being able to go back to stock would be the clincher for me...

whats wrong with keeping your stock chip and changing it back when it comes time to sell the car???

i could be wrong, but i was under the impression that they solder something to the chip? :?

the stock chip is unsoldered and the new chip is soldered in its place.I have my original chip and one day,it will return to its previous place.
it takes about 40min to unsolder/solder.

if you do it,ask for your stock chip back.

The main thing I liked was the ability to switch to the performance map only when I drove the car.

So looks like REVO is the only real option if that's what I want huh?
Has anyone got one installed? Thoughts?
I don't want to start any chip wars, but I have really only read about GIAC and APR chips being mentioned the most.
