Firstly i have a MY12.5 polo GTI. I have installed my own RNS510. It is a h version built 6/2012 and has the latest firmware (4020). it all works fine but when i tried to use VCDS to enable the secret menu i had no luck. I went to
37 navigation-adaption and changed channel 50 to 1 (was 0) igot this info from a link i found here. is this correct? as i cant get to the menu. it only allows me to see AM,FM and system info.

Also is there any way to bring the directions from the sat nav up on the MDF like the golfs?

And lastly how do i get the voice activation to work. if i use the steering wheel button i cant command the sat nav. but if i press the start button i cant give it commands as it seems it not connecting through the mic.

1. That is the correct way to enable 'secret' menu
2. You need to turn on BAP using VCDS in address 37 navigation, under coding
3. Do you have OEM Bluetooth (was it factory installed?) If so then you need to plug the mic in the headliner into the 'mic in' + and - pins on the RNS510. THen you need to plug the bluetooth module's mic pins into the 'mic out' + and - pins on the RNS510. If you don't have OEM bluetooth then you need to plug in a mic of some sort into the mic in pins on the RNS510.

I have the factory Bluetooth but not sure where it is. I'll have a look at the BAP but pretty sure it was ticked. Any ideas as to why no secret menu even though iv done the right thing?

Did you restart that RNS510 (push the 3 button along the top besides the Eject one).

Illustration of required microphone wiring (genuine bluetooth retrofitted in this case):

Even with this correct setup the steering wheel button is only used for phone functions, to voice control the sat nav you have to press the button on the RNS510.

You'll also need to add Navigation to the Can Gateway -> Installation List along with the BAP. Make sure shortpress steering wheel is ticked too.

It looks like the OEM BT Polos don't have the mic wiring up for the RNS from factory. It'd probably be easier to wire up a 2nd mic rather than getting a line run from the BT unit to the HU.

Also, are you still holding the setup button after the FM menu shows? You need to keep holding for it to show.

Ah ok, I have the same unit as you but it had the 39xx firmware so I just upgraded to the modded 4020 version on the forums here.
Did you get the navigation menu on the MFD?

So i seem to have got it working. yesterday the CAN didnt have navigation for me to tick. toaday when i started VCDS it wanted to update so i did that and when i went back in to can i could tick 37 and do the rest. i now also have the secret menu. but now i have 3 errors

first is in the navigation saying mic is open circuit which is understandable as its not connected
next is the radio which has the same fault
3rd is the can which has this

the first two i get as there is no mic connected to the RNS but is the CAN saying inccorrectly coded for the same reason or is it a separate fault? all systems seem to be going fine

Usually occurs when you accidentally tell the car you've installed something that's not present in the car. i.e. I got it when I ticked the CD changer box instead of MDI when retrofitting.

Have you installed that RVC unit yet? You'll need to tick that too

I have worked out that the coding for the camera is not intirely in the module but the RNS510 at first when got the car the stero would do nothing when i reversed but after i installed the RNS it would go black. when i hooked up the vag com i found that the RVC was already ticked.

camera was in and wired up but i pulled the badge back out to keep going with the bracket.
