when I said a few months ago that VW will make a rear engined porsche derived car (again) I was called all sorts of things! now whos laughing?? !!

Whilst the City Expert will now have a water-cooled engine as opposed to air, it is closer in concept to the original Beetle than the modern namesake could ever hope to be.

VW’s car will cost around £3500 in developing markets, whilst Europe's version will cost around £5000. The City Expert is claimed to be ‘sensationally flexible’ because it will be available in three different bodystyles for varying markets. We’ll have a three-door hatch, India a five-door, and China will get a four-door saloon.

Although the engine is in the back, and steeply angled for more boot room, the battery, air-con unit and radiator are in the nose: both ends have a luggage compartment. Power steering isn’t expected to be available – it’s not needed due to the lack of weight over the front wheels – but ESP should be standard in Europe. Such simplicity should cut the build time of the car to an industry-leading 12 hours.

Don't believe half of this.

This is purely factual
We’ll have a three-door hatch, India a five-door, and China will get a four-door saloon.

Its already been confirmed that Indias small car will be Gol NF/Polo based as I think the Chinese version will be two.

City Expert plain and simple is a Europe only car.

I looked at the thread G and no one laughed at you ;)

I never said RWD VW was not going to happen countless concepts have pointed to VW returning to it roots.

1997-2007 RWD Concepts
W12 Concept Coupe/Roadster
1L Concept
Concept R
EcoRacer
W12 GTI-650

Also I just stated the article was wrong with how many variants of the City Expert are going to come out.

I'm 70% sure VW will only come out with one version of the City Expert 3/5dr hatch but no RWD sedan or hatch for China/India.

GCB has more news on the City Expert

http://www.germancarblog.com/2007/08/vw-city-expert-rear-engine-officially.html

It seems two versions will be made on for Europe and one for developing countries (not known which one article just guesses).

Also the City Expert for developing markets maybe sold under another brand of the VWAG empire (Skoda is mentioned in article).

I still think the main Worldwide car will be Gol NF but this City Expert will be sold in some markets.

The concept has been revealed, and it's no longer called "City Expert".

Introducing, the VW up!

Odd name, but if they get it in under $15,000, it might be a huge seller in our increasingly congested cities.

Yeah I saw this to. Very interesting but the interior looks very cheap so to speak! They have "Shell like seats for easy removal".

Great to see that Volkswagen is going back to its heritage. I think that over the decades Volkswagen has veared away from its people car concept and moved upper market.

I think the VW Up will definatly be a great success as the new peoples car.

Cant wait till they come out here, ill definatly be purchasing one.
