The other night when i had a nail in my tyre i ran into a problem. I had the car on a jack, wheel nuts off and already to take the wheel off and when i went to take the wheel off it didnt budge. Now ive had this before where the wheel rusts to the hub, and normally you just give it a tap and it comes off. But this time no, gave it a yank and a kick and nothing. obviously i was carefull of the car coming off the jack and i also had a spare wheel under the car just in case it came down. Anyway i rang VW assistance and they said if nothing i had done worked then the only other thing they suggest is
"to put two wheel nuts in (opposite sides) so its finger tight, then loosen the nuts a full turn. Then go for a drive if you can in sharp turns and itll break free." This worked a charm, so i just thought i would let you all know in case it happens to you at some stage.
sounds like a reasonable way of doing it! although i wouldnt go for too long a drive!

That is such a dodgy recommendation, but effective none the less. I just kicked the top of the wheel really hard and swore. It broke the seal and came off.

Hey Aussie Kids, Thats a nifty idea, better than pulling the car of the jack onto your self.
Our jack should be know as the widow maker not very stable.

Why is it dodgy. Its not like your going for a cruise or anything. Just a quick drive with wheel on lock. It took me all of 5meters to crack the seal.

I noticed the "rusty hub" issue recently, so wire brushed mine and gave them a light spray of lithium grease before refitting the wheels. Haven't had the wheel removal problem, though.

a light tap on the inside - out with a rubber mallet works too...
common problem on 4x4's when going water trecking...

For someone like us who isn't a complete goof it'd be alright, but I mean I know people who are the 'car-stupid' They'd put on 2 nuts right next to each other and try doing doughnuts.
I'd just be very risky telling someone who is likely to win a Darwin award during their life to try it, thats all.
wish this thread was here 4 days ago!! lol. took me two hours to swap my wheels cuz my back tyres were stuck... i was pretty paranoid about the car coming off the jacks, even though i have two on at the time. (bought a hydraulic jack)..
