G'day & welcome to the forum Geoff.

Face lifted Touareg. Nice!!

You not planning on towing a 747????

Thanks for the welcome.
No 747's... but have had to tow a Tata about 1 hour after the photo was taken.

Great fun car, handles better at speed than I would expect and on the dirt is great fun (pic was on the edge of Sunset Desert in Victoria).
Now up to 3500km approx, am off to Northern Territory later in the month so hopefully some good shots.

I must say it is becoming a way of life... below is wife's car on recent trip to Tasmania. Just noticed we leave the doors open a lot... :)

Live in Melbourne, Touareg photo was on the edge of the Sunset Desert (approx 600km from Melbourne) prior to photo we had been on the fire tracks but they are sand, got covered in mud afterwards.

NT trip is to Alice then approx 100k to the Nth West then back around 250km to the East of Alice... 10 day trip to and from Melb, so will be no time for a wash.. should be fun :-)

Geoff

Are you towing anything on dirt/gravel roads your trip to NT? I've just gone through the nausea of having broken a rear window. If you are, invest in some cardboard or other shock absorbing material to protect the glass.

Cheers and welcome

Not towing, although the towbar is installed. There is a bunch going and the rest are in catered 4wds. I just dont make a good passenger.

I should mention that VW have also come up with a bluetooth kit that makes use of the 12v outlet on the console. I had this installed afterwards (as the kit was still on test), takes about 2 hours and cost $699.00.
You end up with a spun aluminium button that looks quite nice.

There are a few other options that I would have liked but was not prepared to wait for (had to wait long enough).
Would have liked:
- Sat Nav.
- Factory Bluetooth.
- Rear wheel carrier.
- Memory package for seats.
- Air suspension.

I found it dissapointing that VW Aust is bringing such a great vehicle in to meet price points that really do not do justice to the vehicle.
As an example, I wanted both sunroof and spare, however all the cars coming in Black or Galapogas had one or the other... not both.

But I am not complaining too much, it is great fun.

nice package, I have not seen a black t'reg with chrome nose before, I think it looks classy!

Agree with you, VGA marketing is quite abstract in Oz, personally I would have made the full size spare and fog lights standard (you get these on $30k cars as standard in Oz and they are so essential). But they sell as many cars as they get allocated so I guess they must be OK.

re' cars that VGA brings in....(I have a story about toyota) my mother wants to give up her old benz diesel for a new petrol yota so off we went to the nearest yota dealer, she is a 'hard to please' customer, the deal took over 3 hours, and I couldn't believe what ever she threw at them, they could go through the range of cars, colours, model designation and return fire with we have that car, that colour, that model designation in stock (at a price my mother thought was good value). I had planned on visiting a vw dealer afterwards....but it seems there's no need.

cheers

Ok, here are pics.
We went to Aileron in NT and then back to a place approx 50km North East of Jervois. Approx 250km each way of dirt on Plenty Highway (ie 500km all up)... no mud but tons of dust. Most had been shaken off by time pics were taken. ;)
All up 6000km round trip in 10 days, Treg went great, loved the NT speed limits.
Was more than impressed with tyres as did not get a flat...
It is amazing to watch the Galapagos change colour in different light... much more bronze in NT.
No dust leakage.

jeez bobzed, you get out more than me...

One cautious word of warning to anyone keen on doing a similar trip in new car... wait until first service or book one ahead of time on the way..

I had 4600km on clock when I left and 10600 on return, first service is 7500km... but only 1 VW place in SA (Adelaide and they were not sure of what oil to use) and 1 in Darwin (was still over 1200km from my northern most point)... As a consequence my first service will be at 10,600km+ (but only 5 weeks old).

..first service is 7500km...
First service on all Touaregs pre-facelift has always been 15,000km. Is it really 7500 or are you being "diesel-cautious"?

First service was 7500km.:?

I think your dealer is telling porkies there.
Have a look in your service schedule (book 1.1) inside cover will have your vehicle data PR numbers. Look to see if you have QG1, this indicates service interval prolongation which means 15,000km oil change (also noted on page 7). Unless you are using diesel with a high sulphur content, are a taxi, regular towing maximum weight trailers or exposed to high levels of dust all the time then 7,500km oil changes are not required.
Myself and all the other owners of V6 TDI (facelift model) Touaregs I know of have not had their dealer try this on us.

I would suggest ask the dealer why they require this service to be conducted and if the answer is not to your complete satifaction question it. Also try another dealer for their advice on this issue. Unless this is a free service by the dealer then go for it.

Hi all first post but have been lurking for a while.

I was unsure about when my 3 litre TDI Egg needed service but at about 14200 km the display said Service now. Had it serviced by my local dealer and when I pickd it up I asked the service manager when the next service was due and he said 30,000 km or 12 months.
