Hullo :)

I'm up for a set of new tires sometime before years end. Currently I've got Pirelli P-Zero Nero's which are close to the wear indicators all round. Great tires, although a bit on the noisy side. FANTASTIC grip in the wet as well. Apparently, Pirelli does not make them in my size anymore. Which leaves me wondering, what else to go for?

Budget wise I don't want to spend crazy amounts.

I have found the Hankook K104s to be a great bang-for-buck

be careful to get something with the correct load rating. The choices are surprisingly small.
I went for michelin pilot precedas. Which are ok. Not the best but not the worst. The new version is sposed to be better though. I think in that size theyre around $250 per corner.

whats your budget?

Yeah not many choices in that size.
We have the same size on the wifes 16v Tolly and I just got a set of American Hercules brand tyres.
They are load rated, directional and have a water dispersant tread.
I paid $115 each for em.
3000kms on we are happy.

the other tyres i looked at were yohohamas and bridgestone. But my tyre fitting friend was of the opinion the michelins were better.

Just check out their website and u will see what they have to offer

I will have to look properly but I have Yoko's for $110 and they were a 215/40/16.

They also had them in a 205 for the same price, but none when I was there.

I'm preparing for $1000 all up, but less would be better. So much wallet rape lately!

I used to use Silverstone for 205 45 R16's on my old Hyundai :)

Were always a realyl good tyre with really good grip in both wet and dry.

details here:

or for the full range:

When it comes time to replace my tyres on the VR6, which are also 205 45 R16's I will be looking at Pirelli's since I have a mate in the biz who can get them cheap.

I have been paying about $ 130, for 15' x 195 x 50
So I suppose the 16's wont be much more
I have found them best value for the money without getting into Pzero's ect
cheers Ian

Nexen N3000 205/45/16 although 215/40/16 would be better and 205/40/16 for the win.

$520 a set from my local dealer. Heading back from Rally SA yesterday flat stick these tyres just keep impressing. Had Toyo's etc but considering tyres can only handle x amount of heat cycles I'll have a fresh set of these babies every year ta :)

Hey guys i just got a price for some Adrenalin Potenza RE001 205/45/16 for the polo $230 each. Ment to be really really good just released a month or so ago.
205/45/16 seem to be a little more due to the fact they are not an overly common size. I am sure they would be cheaper o the main land too tassie prices tend to be a little more due to frieght.

Was just down the wheel and tyre place to organise a pink slip for the wifes car so asked about the 205/45/R16's I wil eventually need forthe VR6 and was recommended Falken tyres @ $130 a corner.

Just another option for you.

Toyo Proxes T1R
- 195/45R16 80V
- 205/45ZR16 87W
Toyo Proxes 4
- 205/45ZR16 87W
- 205/40ZR16 83W
Yokohama S-Drive AS01
- 195/45R16 84W
- 205/45R16 87W
Yokohama C-Drive AC01
- 205/45R16 87W
Yokohama A-Drive R1
- 205/45R16 87V
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
- 195/45R16 94V
- 205/45R16 83W
- 205/45R16 93W
Goodyear Eagle LS2000
- 195/45ZR16 80ZR
- 205/45R16 83W

Anybody know any other tyres that may fall under this category? I'm planning to ring some of the places up to get some prices and will update this as I go. Also, the loadings and speed ratings are well within the capabilities of the Golf.

Matt, did you end up getting new tyres? If yes, what did you end up going for? And how much?

After a bit of a think and consult with some people in the know, I've booked in for Nexen 6000's this coming Thursday.

The reason I went for something less-then-stellar is that my current PZero Nero's arent load rated to the car. Apparently, a lot of other tires in my size arent load rated correctly either :? But the Nexens are.

I dont much fancy my current rims too, so I decided cheap tires for the moment, then save for new rims + tires (although in the mean time need to save up to replace my worn out shocks).

The nexens are going to run me $152 each, for 4. Fitting extra.

Oops, turns out they were Nexen 3000s!

Not overly impressed by them, but then again I guess I shouldn't be. Grip is nowhere near the old pirellis, but at least I wont get a ticket from the fuzz now.
