Hello all, this is my latest and now main project, a 76 3 door.

I purchased it 6 months ago and its been sitting quietly in the shed waiting for some other cars to get fixed up and sold. It has original paint on the passenger side, hatch, roof, bonnet and front. The drivers side was repaired under insurance when a 4wd reversed into it (previous owner). The door and front guard have been replaced and the side of the car resprayed in 2k. So it looks like the best part of the car, but its not. Here it is with a replacement door and guard fitted up.

I popped the screens and windows out and was very happily surprised to see no rust!

But its not perfect, the floors require some weld repairs

Plans are to build a GTI replica. I have a set of spax springs and bilstien dampers, Cabriolet swaybars and brakes, cordoba drums, booster and MC, snowflake wheels and to power it, this motor.

The interior and cosmetic details will probably be the main expenses to finish the car

No rush Aydan, things move slowly when you divide your time between so many projects..... I'll probably only need one or two ultimately......

Thanks Aydan, I just need a clear run at it.

This weekend we made some progress. THe priority was getting this GLD ready to sell. It will be advertised shortly....

There are some rust issues with the firewall/inner arch seams..... Otherwise the engine bay is in incredibly good nick!

There is much to do. Rust is the first task.
At the same time I'll get it off its wheels, replace the tank and lines and rebuild the suspension and get the body ready for a lick of paint..... As the car has already been half painted I dont think I can get away without painting the whole car. I'll do the engine bay while were at it.

Somewhere along the way I am going to need the following parts:

Early drivers side 2-door door (priority!)
early hard plastic dash
GTI seats
Rear hatch with wiper and ancillaries
Door glass seals and windscreen seals with no chrome

Details to confirm:
Are 76 GTI bumpers just steel bumpers with the holes plugged and painted black?
Are 76 GTI quarter vents fixed?
