Not sure mate, the Green one is owned by G60JAY also though, it's an SLC (American with 2.8l VR6). He's also got one with AWD that was going to have a 24VT in it, not sure if it ever got finished.

They're the only VR's i know of in Australia

Carl there was one that wasn't registered I think came from Japan. Pretty sure Pete Shelley went to see it and made the guy an offer that wasn't accepted? Loon may remember/have seen it too.

The funny thing was the seller claimed it was owned by Jamiroquai

I don't think it was from Japan, not sure, but yeah it was a LHD. Jay converted it to RHD and had it on the road. Saw him in 2009 i think, he still had it on the road then. Johnny's G60 was also Jay's.

Last week a guy in Hamilton sold a VR6 to another bloke in Warwick. It was a dark coloured one, I believe. I know this from the bloke who did the safety certificate on it.

That's a good looking car. What size rims did you have on it, 16"? Looks like they could be BBS?

Coming back to the original sentiment of this thread: he was right about the VR6, but he also assured me it was a Corrado. Fail.

Had me in suspense for a few minutes there!!!

They're the original 15" BBS that came standard on the GOLF VR6 btw...

So....getting back to corrados. Has anyone talked to a RAW(registered automotive workshop) lately regarding the cost of a license? Wondering if it's still 20k? If it was half that it'd nearly be worth bringing in a few mint VR6s(corrados!!!!).

I spoke to an engineer about that. He said quite clearly not to bother because you just don't know what it will end up costing. He cited the example that if the luminescence of the tail lights do not conform to the Australian standards, even if they are bright enoguh, a whole new testing regime must be conducted - and certifying the tail light alone may end up costing $10,000! He advised me very strongly that unless you have a good $50k spare to chuck at it you'de be entering a world of pain. If everything was to go smoothely, and everything complies, it could cost as little as $15k to have a Corrado complianced (apparently).

Respect to anyone who's willing to go down this track. For the moment, it looks as if we remain reliant on the grace of UK expats to bring more VR6s into the country.

has anyone got any idea how much , it would actually cost to get a rado shipped and on the road from the uk ?
yep i've heard all about the pre 89 thing but there must be some way you can get , say a 94 VR over here somehow.
Whats with all the jap's ie; skyline's , s14 /15's etc etc
i sold my vr with regret in 2009 to a good mate and now's he's thinking of selling , but as promised at the time
i get first shout , bit of a bargin even with the shipping hopefully if i can get it here ,
i've googled this to death , so i thought someone here would know :)

oh sorry if this has already been said by anyone else , if so i havent seen it ............

The Corrado is on the SEVS register, which means it is accepted as a specialist and enthusiasts vehicle. So far so good. Now, to get one in that is NOT a personal import, you will need to find a RAW (registered automotive workshop) that will compliance the car for you. The following is taken straight from the RAWS Australia: Welcome to RAWS Australia Online (http://www.raws.com.au) website:

"It is then necessary for a RAW to hold documentary evidence that the vehicle meets the requirements of the ADRs, as required by the "Approval to Place Used Import Plates Determination" current at the time, and have the vehicle added to their schedule."

So you need to pay the RAW for their effort in adding the vehicle to their schedule, i.e. they become certified to compliance this specific Make - Model - Variant - Badge, and ONLY this specific one. So a G60 from '92 would need a separate compliancing than a '95 VR6 Storm for example.

Once done, the RAW is then allowed to import up to 100 vehicles a year. SO FAR NO RAW HAS CERTIFIED A CORRADO, to my knowledge.

The difference to a Skyline is that everyone wants one, and they get imported from Japan in numbers that make the certification proposition viable, anf therefore there are several RAWs that do. As stated in the above posts, it can cost anything between 15k and +50k to get a model complianced. THAT is why it's so hard.

However, if it's a personal import - no worries (comparatively).

Oh, as for the cost of shipping one over and complying with all the customs/weed&seed conditions, it would cost about $1500-$2000 for the shipping, then another $500-$700 to have the car cleaned, then administrative charges, say another $500 and then the import tax of course, which depends on the price you paid for the car. All up expect to add another $3000-$4000 +tax ontop of the purchase price.

All my information comes from my own research, but there are members here who have first-hand experience with this, and I invite them to comment. :)
