Since there is no Gumtree section I thought this may be appropriate in this section.
Its a 1999 Mk4 GTI In Adelaide for $7,000!
1999 Volkswagen Golf GTi | Cars | Gumtree Australia Playford Area - Waterloo Corner (http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/waterloo-corner/cars/1999-volkswagen-golf-gti/354530286)

My initial thought on this car is that something maybe extremely wrong with it as it seems way too cheap. But I may be wrong.
I paid $12,000 for mine which is exactly the same, except for the high kms.
What is everybody else's thoughts on this ad?

If I was in SA, I'd be going to check it out today. The paint looks good, it probably has some electrical problems, door locks, etc. But high k's might be the only thing.

Its cheap and it might be ok. Has to be worth a look. I got an S3 for 16500 3 years ago from Sydney. They are down to 13K now.
Honestly, I think cars are way over priced in Adelaide. I bought nearly every car interstate, better choice, as a Pom it was good to see lots of Australia on the way home too.

A MK4 GTI would have to be exceptional to be worth 12K these days. Especially when I know someone that bought a MK5 GTI for 14K.

Love to, but need to sell mine first, and before that, major service - self imposed.

You can't argue with that price, a month or so ago I picked up a 2000 MK4 GTI 193K on the clock for $6200
All electrics work, I've done a service, changed all fluids and timing belt. Runs pretty smooth, don't look at the kms as long as it's been serviced on time and the owner appears as to have looked after it.

it might be a great buy, it might not. Unless someone goes out and test drives and haves a look none of us can be certain.
When i took my mk4 GTi to solitaire yesterday, one of the guys there was saying that mine was the cleanest and best condition he has seen in a long time. Ive dealt with this guy many times (mainly for my old lady's mk6 TSI).
I saw another mk4 GTi there and it wasn't in the best of conditions and it had only done 140,XXXkms, a lot of electrics had been stuffed

It's just a case of MK4's aren't worth what they used to be. At the end of the day it's a 13 year old hatchback with 185,000k's on it.

Prices these days are a lot more realistic. I was horrified in 2006 when I had to pay 16000 for a 98 A3T. I could have bought nearly 4 for the same money (converted to sterling) in the UK.

Hmm, totally true.
