View Full Version : WA RAC Track day 2/7

Back Door Shenanigans.

Hey all,

In line with discussion on the other thread this is the thread dedicated to the track day.

What: 2.5 hrs track racing
When: 23rd of June
Where: RAC track (near the airport) Venue information | RAC Driving Centre | Defensive driving, 4WD, truck, forklift, towing, and motorcycle courses available (http://rac.com.au/Motoring/Driving-centre/Venue-information-and-maps.aspx)

Info:
So as far as i know here the info
Number of people: 12
Cost: $600 in total (therefore $50 each)
Includes both skid pan and track.

I will find out more details shortly. This is mainly to see if the interest is there and to sort out the bugs. So feel free to ask a question and i can make sure to include it when i ring them. I will try and see if the 12 people is just on the track or if we can have more.

The way i plan to run the booking and payment system is to have almost a first come first serve. In the first few weeks before all the details are sorted ill add everyone's name in a list. From there when everything good to go I will ask the first 12 people for their deposit or share of the costs which once paid will guarantee them the spot. 2 or so weeks after that first stage ill open up any free spots (people who haven't paid) to those in order of the list.

Hopefully that makes sense above. If you guys aren't comfortable with that arrangement let me know, it just stops people taking spots and ditching at the last second.

Also if you said you will come in the other thread just reaffirm it in here so everyone knows and doesn't call shenanigans.

Hey all,

So i rang them up and got some interesting info.

So
Cost will be $600 for the track
Limited to 12 participants with spectators allowed

and the real problem is that its only bookable Monday to Wednesday which means it will have to be either the 25th, 26th or 27th. Let us know how much this will mess things up ;) Im guessing we can book the time so also let us know what times best for you guys.

I'm guessing week days might make it abit more difficult for most people, but you can only work with what they give you!

I could do a late arvo session on any of those days. Like 3pm onwards.... I dont know if thats one of the timeslots or not...

Yeah i know this is a we bit of a problem which is why im annoyed. Might talk to mid vale or collie and see what they got just to do it on the weekend. Apparently it seems to be book all the way to late august so.

Finally got a minute to login... track days have always been tricky to organise at RAC unfortunately due to week day conflicts with people working. I'm not sure if I'd be able to make one that easily either having just started a new-ish job full time & have holidays booked already.

Luke, suggest you add a poll to this thread if you can so people can nominate preferred days (allowing multiple selection) then best option wins. Can't keep track if everyone says they can do one day not another etc and it will turn to chaos ;)

I've never been to Collie track - I reckon that would be good for a long weekend and we can stay down there overnight.

can you confirm the timing.

originally you mentioned 2.5 hours of track time, I assume their will be induction discussions etc, so if we start at 4pm, it will go till 7 pm or after? (where it will be dark and possible wet)

i'd prefer an earlier session if possible.

Are you able to give us some sort of day's agenda? ie is it all on the track, or will there be and training, skid pan, motorkhana etc

Yeah not a problem i will find out hopefully tommorow for you. I think there's like a 15minute safety meeting then its do what ever you feel like i think. Both the track and skid pan are booked.

The tuning sessions are the 15min brief and they you head out and do the track or skid pan. You can can the instructor with you if you want.

The performance sessions are with a instructor and they take you through driving style and etc. There is public tuning sessions where you can call up RAC and book but its only up to 12 people and its public so gets filled pretty quickly. They go from 3pm to 5pm and thats 2hrs of solid track time.

They are pretty up to date with driving in the wet and lower the speed on the track in sections where if you come off you will be kissing the cold stuff. Some guys have got their cars bogged, ripped bumpers off and etc but thats because they didnt listen to the instructor

Luke are you dealing with Lisa at RAC?

What time was that?

I rang up (Sorry been busy this week 3 mid semester tests) and apparently its about 5-7Min of safety briefing then from 2:30 to 5 of driving. Half the group is on the track and half on the skid pan.

balkanac
26-04-2012, 07:39 PM
We had both but we started from the skidpan, just drove straight through it and onto the track. It was 5 min briefing, and then onto the track. I think I did about 15-20 laps in about 1.5 hours and decided I had enough. In the end a lot of people give up or cars break down so you can get more laps in. I think it was well worth $65 :)

If you have any questions or query's post in this thread or pm me.

Love the afterburner Gareth!! Still never been certain if mine pops out the back like that coming off the turbo sometimes ;)

Lucky I turned the GoPro on for you Shay at the beginning of that lap!!! Nik's right though, it looked much more dramatic when the cloud of sand and grass flew up into the air!!

Pics soon!

I'm contemplating a set of hi flow downpipes in the future - will have to redo the run to see if there's more unburnt fuel gets through.

Shay on the vid, after the spin I notice you held your hand up in the air for a few seconds - interesting reaction to the spin! LOL

Yeah mate, something i was sort of trained to do...
When I have and incident at the track, which happens a fair bit, as i love to push the boundaries, i take the car out of gear, take both feet right back off the pedals and take my hands right off the wheel.

Sort of to make sure the car has come to a really complete stop and is settled, rather than trying to power out of the spin...

Also, might of been distracted and left my hand up a bit longer than normal, on the inside camera you hear me trying to blow away all the dust and sand, haha.

btw, its been suggested that the sparks from my exhaust are not unburnt fuel but carbon deposits coming loose

Definitely don't think its unburned fuel which would be a flame, More looks like your catalytic converter sparking. Unburnt fuel would be like antilag type more flame than sparks

i've had that clip emailed to me at least 10 times so far.

How do people get the impression I like cars???

the think that makes me laugh is how the yanks think that nascars going round and round in big circles is actually entertaining?

and yes geoff you are right, old/new, but how many picked Block's cam falling off, and associated with Luke's?

out of curiosity, did anyone note their speed on the straight before the witches hat chicane?

I wasnt watching my speedo but I redlined 3rd once, which gave me a top speed of 169kph before the rev-limiter cut in

At the VW Driving Experience, I think I was at 154km/h (not on the speedo, but on the video) in the R before the witches hate chicane...
