Had this wheel retrofitted to my Jetta this morning!

I picked up the wheel 2nd hand from an eBay seller in Europe last month and finally found the time to fix it.

Unfortunately I'm terrible with tools, so I looked around for quotes to get it fitted. To my surprise, the cheapest quote I got was from a VW dealer @ Camberwell in Victoria! They were also the quickest in replying my emails and answered all my questions promptly. I only paid $143 (an hour of labour charge) to get the wheel fitted and coded. The service was extremely professional from the moment I dropped the car off and when I picked it up. I dropped it in around 930am and told me that I can pick it up at 1130am. I got a call at 1130am sharp that it was all done and ready to be picked up.

Overall, I'm very happy with wheel as well as the service from VW Camberwell. Everything is working as it should.

Oh also, I had to replace my passenger side mirror because I snapped it while trying to pull the glass out to locate the puddle light. They also quoted the cheapest for the replacement mirror compared to the other VW specialists. Labour was included in the wheel fitting. So I only paid for the part!

I got lucky with one of the sellers. He was waiting for stock to arrive but somehow it took longer than expected. He then told me that he's got a spare one from his wife's car. I decided to take it since I've been eyeing at one for a long time.

It seems like a lot of sellers in Europe are not allowed to post airbags via air.

Looking good. Did the dealer tell you what parts, if any apart from the wheel, were changed?

Nope, I don't think anything was changed. I'm sure it was a straight swap. If something was changed, they would have told or charged me extra. I was waiting for them to call me and say that there's an issue with this/that but they didn't!

I bought it from this seller

eBay: SatNav4U (http://stores.ebay.com.au/SatNav4U)

Seems like he has stopped carrying the wheels. Best to PM him.

Yeh Frozzie
I have tried 3 times to get a mfsw out from different Euro suppliers for my dsg Tig but have had my orders cancelled each time by the seller.
Airbags are considered dangerous goods for air travel because of their explosive discharge when activated. Obviously the sellers over there are not interested enough to find an alternative way of shipping. It's all too hard it seems.
Also there is a general shortage of these wheels worldwide due to a major crackdown on theft by Euro police so I have been informed by another member on this forum.

Sweet. I think I'll do this one myself. I have a ross tech cable just incase but hopefully mine is like yours and is just a straight swap.

I think Bricarauto was willing to send it via sea if i could find a courier.

Can the airbag "accidentally" deploy even when it's not plugged in?? I'm a lil paranoid now handling my old wheel with the airbag. Not sure where I should store it!

According to the wheel swap guides in forums and even airbag removal steps in VW repair manuals static electricity can cause deployment.

I could be wrong but it seems like this Golf R's DSG wheel is still available for sale. The thread is a bit old though so it might have been sold. But worth asking if anyone is interested in buying a paddle shifter wheel.

Hi.

So I swapped out my stock wheel for a Jetta GLI wheel with paddle shifters last night but my paddle shifters don't work. Frozze did the dealer have to code the wheel for you?

Sorry for the late reply..

I'm sure they coded the paddles (possibly the other buttons too) for me.. i dont think it works off the bat..

No problem on the delay. I coded it a couple days ago. Option for paddle shifters was unchecked initially. I quite like it this new wheel.
