Alrighty people, round 4!
Lakeside raceway again for breakfast ($25)
The Safety Briefing/Breakfast starts at 7:30 and we should be out on the track by 8:30am.
I will be there from about 7:15 and would reccomend that people aim to get there by 7:20am.
Menu:
Fresh toast
Fried or Scrambled eggs
Crispy bacon
Gourmet chipolatas
Baked beans
Tea & coffee
Rules:
No PPE gear required (i.e. no need for a helmet, fireproof long sleaved shirt etc).
No undercutting to overtake on the corners.
Only overtake on straight sections of the track.
If you are not overtaking anyone on the straight stay to one side (the left) of the track and let quicker cars (clio, grey R, RS4, 335i etc) overtake
People other than the driver:
People who wish to passenger/split the driving are required to pay the same amount as the driver.
People who wish to watch from trackside do not have to pay unless they want breakfast.
I am having this open to Euro cars and you can invite family members (no friends this time sorry) if they are in Euro cars as well.
Anyone can come and passenger with you if they are willing to pay for breakfast.
In order to keep these events from becoming too booring i have invited the Lotus Club of QLD to attend and have set aside 5 spots for them.
I am capping the numbers at 30 cars (25 + 5 Lotus club) in order to keep the event fun and not have traffic delays.
The Main List is full, nominations will go on the reserve list and when/if someone pulls out you get moved form reserve into the main list.
Unfortunatley if you do not make it to the main list we can't accomodate you at the event but if there are any remaining on the reserve list by the cut-off date i will place them on the main list when i organise the next one in order to give a fair spread.
Please let me know if you are coming and how many people you will be bringing with you for catering purposes.

No worries Don/Anthony.
The benefits of missing out on the previous one nad having to be on the reserve list is that you get first spot on the main list for hte next one :)

Count me in, hopefully ill have more luck this time. Every last thing is going to be checked before hand this time so I hopefully don't have a repeat incident.
I know the girlfriends dad would
love to bring his fpv along and has been asking me to ask, so if the euro/family member thing changes, I'm sure theyd come along too.

List has been updated.
Regarding the FPV, the main reason I want it to be euro only is because of the "issue" we had during ver. 2.
There were complaints that the commodore driver was going too slow in the corners (as to not spin out) so the other cars would catch up but then was too fast/wouldn't allow people to overtake on the straights as it had straight line speed so it threw the whole event into chaos.
If we have spaced left i will see what we can do to accomodate but the event is meant to be fun for everyone on the forum so if we can sort something out the FPV may have to allow the cars that can corner well the space/chance to overtake.

I understand completely and agree it should be euro only, but now I can say I've asked :P its a ute with a supercharged 8 so i doubt it would be any better then that commodore was, although it wouldnt have skid tyres on and the guy has been racing things for years so probably could keep it under control in the corners, so probably would be marginally better.
Now I have an excuse for not inviting them anyway ;)

I don't mind organising it, since i have done it the last 3 times it's basically just keeping on top of hte list and trying to find new ways to keep it interesting (lotus club invites etc)
Also it is nice to have a distraction at work haha.
I think once a month would be good if we can swing it becasue we also have the golf.net/watercooled catch up organised by Tarmac/Frazza.

Hi Clay,
Seeing the Lotus is not going to be running again for awhile thought I would join the forum / club - if it ok as I do not own a VW? I would like to put my name down on the reserve list for the next happy laps 2 thanks. Also thought this might be of interest to the older VW Golf GTI owners:

urgh you lucky man. Try and go to the porsche museum in stuttgart if you can, that is INSANELY AWESOME! (along with the mercedes one but IMO porsche is better ;) ). See if there is a VW museum, I couldn't go if there was one because I was only in southern Germany. You will love Germany!

Be less worried about the power and work on your lines, braking marker and carrying speed through and out of the corner. Those michelin tyres and factory suspension would also be a weakness but again is second to getting the lines right. And as long as you're enjoying yourself, outright speed isn't so important until you can put it all together.
Something like this will help with your lines, and a lot cheaper when you stuff em :-)

That is the plan - there is the VW glass tower too which I must see. Also the Mercedes Benz world and BMW M factory. Porsche is my fav car so no doubt i will be there.
Was told Ferrari factory is locked out to owners though - but who really wants to see that with a bunch of pretensious pretty boys??? :emo_baghead:

A bit off topic but I've been to the Merc Museum/Factory and the Audi Museum/Factory. Mercedes is in Stuttgart along with Porsche and Audi is in Ingolstadt.
Merc Museum was great but the factory tour wasn't. I thought the Audi Museum wasn't as good as the Merc version although if you like your Audis they had a few interesting cars there. Audi Factory tour was awesome. But I've also heard the Porsche Museum is fantastic. I didn't have enough time to visit it. Next time!
But the Germany highlights for me was getting passed by a SLS on the Autobarn at warp factor 9, sounds awesome, a drive in a GT2 and laps around the Nurburgring. I would definitely recommend Nurburgring even if you only go and watch. A passenger lap in the BMW Ring Taxi would be my next suggestion. But if you can and you take brave pills with you, drive it yourself! The place is nuts and a must do for any car enthusiast. It's revhead heaven. Play Station doesn't do it justice. I want to go back! Think Happy Laps but massive with some extremely quick cars.
Germany was one of my favourite countries. You'll love it! Stuttgart is a nice place.
---------- Post added at 02:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:15 PM ----------
And yeah, you can't get into the factory at Ferrari unless you order one. But you can visit the Museum across the road.

Did you join tours or drive around yourself? is it hard to visit Europe yourself?
Weekend-Warrior
21-03-2012, 03:58 PM
We planned it ourselves and used planes, trains, buses, ferries and hire cars. Some places it was easier to drive like Ireland but it is the most expensive option. Depends on the country and where you want to visit.
Most of the younger regenerations speak English so we managed without much trouble. Germany was pretty easy.

haha thats how i learnt to drive a manual to get my manual licence as i don't own a manual car. Hooked up my g25 to LFS and away i went. Although i got about 3 lessons to make sure i could drive one in real life.IMO I thought my lines were quite good as i was keeping up with smokey mk1 and one of the pugs through the back of the track. The corner before the straight I found hard because I couldn't find the apex on that corner. As it turns out my car already has platinum Bosch plugs so i won't bother changing them. The exhaust is mostly for sound because it sounds really restricted at high rpm's and also there is some vibration through the cabin. The power is just for a bonus really. But yes lines are still high on my priority.
Also how did u know my tyres were michelins?
And seeing that spark plugs are not needed, i am thinking about these http://boutique.citroenracing.com/product.php?id_product=3822 looks like 200-300 euros a set. Just don't know which ones to get. Seeing they range between 50 and 71 N/mm.

Racing Sims are good fun. Tempted to get g27, probably will, the increased feel is probably worth it... I've convinced myself.
I hadn't really noticed your lines much, you seemed to be doing well when I did tho. I was having a look at ur car from distance and noticed the tyres.

I hadn't really noticed your lines much, you seemed to be doing well when I did tho. I was having a look at ur car from distance and noticed the tyres.
Ah right you must have a good eye for tyres. I was taking it relatively easy out there because I'm still fairly inexperienced (red p plate) so hopefully next time I can push a little harder. I think I only heard the tyres once on the bend before the straight which was encouraging. I think I'm a little slow out of the corners also because of not having a turbo so my torque is almost non-existant. :( I will upgrade my tyres when my current ones wear out and I will probably get better rims at the same time.
If you're in the market for a new wheel have a look at Fanatec wheels (avoid the carrera wheel though). My cousin has the GT3 RS and the natural feel is amazing (as its belt driven rather than cog). Just be prepared to pay a premium though.
Also do you think it would be worth spending 200-300euro on the springs (as I'm not getting spark plugs)?

Clay,
I will probably come along for a spectate and maybe brekky, but I'll give the GTI a rest this time. My theory is that I will have a fat tax refund cheque to spend on brakes and suspension for the post-July happy laps.
I am getting a bit frustrated with the car as it at the moment - it's got the power to go so much faster but it just needs some bigger brakes and sorted suspension to keep it going through the corners.
I know I said it's a company car and I wasn't going to spend any more money on it - famous last words right?

I commend you on your attitude good sir, if only more P platers took that same approach on the road that we all have to share, it would be a safer place to be and less young people would have serious accidents.
And by the way, tell your old man I think he is onto something big, it should be mandatory for dads to take their P plater sons to a few track days in their first car so they can find out their limits, and let off some adrenalin and testosterone in a relatively safe and controlled environment. Absolutely brilliant idea and what a great initiative!

Oh haha thank you. The track idea was my idea really but yeh dad realised it was actually a good idea to see what the car can and can't do well and how I behave in that situation. This probs sounds obvious but for me I found it to be a really well controlled and relaxed (as relaxed can be on a track) event that allowed me to have some fun without going crazy ass. Next time I will push harder but certainly not as if I entered a grand prix haha.
But yes I commend my old man for having the guts to sit as a passenger for 30 min without talking while I was driving around a track. I am encouraging some of my friends to join these kinds of forums so they can go fast and have fun without endangering themselves like they would on the streets.

I had a serious accident when I was 18. I had a highly modified Nissan Silvia, and I, like every other 18yo, thought I was bulletproof. I drove like a knob and consequently one night I lost control and wrapped it around a power pole and a tree. I wish I had the opportunity to learn my limits in a safe environment rather than almost killing myself and my best mate. Young blokes will always have problems dealing with their adrenalin and risk taking, but at least if you know your limits it certainly helps, and if you can let out your adrenalin and burn some rubber on a track it means that hopefully you can restrain yourself on the road :-)

This may not be the thread to discuss, and I don't know the citroen struts, but many of us on here had done just springs to find our struts were flogged out very quickly and/or ride quality was awful, bouncing as the car is under-dampened. I regularly track my car, from standard to springs only, it was much the same lap times, but felt less controlled and less feedback in the performance. Highway speeds were bad to awful. I added bilstein struts and everything is right now, it's a pleasure to punt hard and comfortable daily. I also dropped 2 seconds a lap off my time at QR. I than changed from the factory continental tyres to kumho ku31 and lost 1sec, along with quite a bit of feel when the car is on the limit.
My point - if you're doing springs only now, budget for new struts in 12months. And don't expect an improvement in cornering or ride.

hmm ok. Yes i didn't think it should be in the thread either but anyways thanks for the reply. I think i'll put that money towards something else. Still l am looking forward to pushing a little harder next time.
Also, off topic again, is it true that taking out the resonator will void the warranty?
Apparantly it's directly related to changing the frequency waves of the exhuast and if i take it out it could damage the engine. Everyone i have spoken to (apart from the citroen parts guy) said it will help the engine exhuast its gases more efficiently as the flow will be more direct which is what i thought as well. I'm really after a more full bodied sound at high rpms and also get the exhaust pop that you get in the more sporty cars e.g. golf gti, scirocco r.
I'm going to talk to the service people at the dealership because the parts guy said they can do a remap for me so i'll ask them whether i should take out the resonator or muffler. I'm just worried that if i take out the muffler it will be loud 100% which is not really what i want.

I had the muffler removed from my car but left the resonator in, It was made completely reversible for me by the guys at BPS.
Was it too loud when i went past you?
Bear in mind it has a high flow dowpipe and cat over the standard one.
Try going on youtube to see if anyone has done a muffler delete or resonator delete on the citroen?

Yes, the place where i got a quote for the res. delete said its reversible. No I thought your car sounded good actually, has a nice throaty sound. I've seen some videos of mini coopers with muffler and res. deletes. The 1.6 engine in the cooper is the same as in my ds3 so i think its a fairly similar car to see what it sounds like. After seeing and hearing the muffler delete, I think i'll get the muffler delete instead of the res. as it shouldn't affect the warranty like the res delete would and it still gets the exhuast 'pop' which i am after.
With your muffler delete, does it make a droning sound when driving normally on the road? Or is it not really noticeable.

Slight drone around 1750RPM.
However i have a downpipe which adds to the noise/flow.
The resonator delete shouldn't give any drone but i am waiting on video evidence of that.

Yeh from what i've read a resonator delete doesn't give any drone but I'm going to make my decision tomorrow morning when I plan to talk to the service guys at citroen. Then I will hopefully be able to get one of them removed next week. If they say a resonator delete is fine with the warranty and I get that in writing and signed by them, then I will get resonator deleted (as apparantly the one on the DS3 does actually restrict performance by a few hp) but if they don't I will most likely get the rear muffler deleted.
Thanks for all the help. Looking forward to the next happy laps! :cookie:

Clay, do they do these at QR too? QR whilst not as fun also has it's own nuances and is a higher average speed environment whilst still rewarding balance and good lines. Differences between slower and faster cars will be more pronouned at QR though also allows for greater committment in the corners due to plenty of run off (safer). Any chance of one or two of these on the annual calendar? :)

They do offer these at QR however I have normally gone with Lakeside as my preference because of the location (closer to a lot of people) and the fact it is more of a challenging course with the elevation changes and off camber corners etc.
It also means the smaller output cars can do pretty well.
I believe Redline3345 was looking into organising a few out at QR as the reserve list fills up pretty quickly here so we could probably get the numbers to do a run at QR too.
My main problem would be that I wasn't willing to organise these too frequently otherwise people will get bored of it (if it hapens every second week etc) and that if you do these frequently hte wear and tear on the cars becomes an issue.
Might be best to shoot Redline3345 (Octavia owner) a pm and see what the go is.

thanks clay, all valid points too mate. QR is probably harder on the car than lakeside (until you hit the grass, lol), braking points are from higher speeds and the higher speed corners (turns 1 and 2) more aggressive on the tyres and chassis.

Something like this is what I had in mind. Quite different circuits to satisfy the different itches (haha, bad analogy). And once every 4-8weeks is awesome IMO.
I'd also likely be able to organise a morning or afternoon at Morgan Park Raceway, Warwick, with Safe Driver Training (SDT) along with advanced driver tuition. It's expensive, bank on $300 depending on numbers. I may be able to get a variance of their advanced day depending on interest levels.
Or - look here (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f21/advanced-driving-courses-%2499pp-69793.html#post791673). Timely email from Queensland Raceway.

I can confirm that when the QR guy gave his introduction about the Porsche GT3 running off into the tyre walls followed by concrete wall, that is true. As was the other example about the car over the back the track. There's little reason to inflate a story, but it hurts that little more when it's a GT3 over a honda civic.

sounds awesome tobes... might not be thinking of you while i'm having fun as i believe it may be slightly dangerous... i think we should all focus on driving, if anyone is keen to focus on tobes, please let me know in advance and i will either stay away from you or arrange a beautiful candlelit dinner for two when you arrive at toby's place...
Will provide candlelit dinner for anyone who wants to help me tile :-)

So there is one empty spot on the main list after we went through all of the reserves.
Just goes to show that even with 13 people on the reserve list you can never be too sure of numbers.
Fingers crossed the weather holds up (at this stage it looks like it should be good).
Anyone on the spectator list that wants to be "upgraded" to driving is welcome to let me know nad i can put you into the last spot.

I probably should have asked this before, but should I turn off my ESP for happy laps? Or leave it on?
I left it on last time and the car felt in control and I was wondering which would be best. Thanks.

I turn ESP off as mine will activate AWD when it detects slip and can be a little unpredictable.
I would say try it without and see how it goes as that is what i did.
It's also a safe way to learn all the extra safety features that the car comes with and how they react.
Fingers crossed for the weather, don't want this to get rained out.

Was it interferring when out there??? I'd suggest leaving it on at lakeside. Citroen settings most likely vary from VW's though mine only interfered coming out of the the 1st corner hairpin over the crest as I had wheel spin in 3rd - though that's also the area where you want the car to be predictable and steering maintained. My suggestion - join at QR and try it turned off. Worse case at QR you'll mow some grass, best case at lakeside will be mowing the grass. Risk vs reward.
If you're smooth, you'll likely find little intervention for the best part of the time.

That is probably a better option since it could be a bit damp out at lakeside this time.
I had it kick in at the end of the hairpin as well and as Sean pointed out, the track is pretty thin there so might be best to leave it on if you didn't feel any difference/hinderence and try it at QR where it would be safer.

Alright cheers guys :) That's what I was thinking too, because if I cook a corner or go a little fast at Lakeside, I'm gone. But at QR I would only get bogged in the sand/gravel traps.
I didn't notice the icon flashing at me except at the hairpin before the straight on one lap when I was in second and gave it a little too much gas. From what I've read in the manual, pressing the "ESP OFF" button will not only disengage the ESP but also the TCS so yeh probably wise to leave it on especially as it will most likely be damp/wet at Lakeside. And also as I have crappy tires :P.

I tried it with and without traction control. With, the light blinked on just about every decent corner and it could be felt interfering. I guess that's probably a fair indication that the car is being driven at it's limits. Once you get a bit more practice under your belt with the TC "on", then try it "Off" - but take it easy. Personally I felt quicker with it "off" but in the knowledge that I had to drive the car knowing that it's all up to me.
Traction control or not, you will never beat the laws of physics ;-)

Mate, I do apologize once again for overtaking you far too soon just before the long straight. It was my mistake.
I was help up behind you for 2 laps.
I was frustrated having to slow down on the corners for 2 full laps being held up by your R on the corners & because of the no overtaking on the back track corners rule... and tried to overtake you on the straight twice up to 180km/h just before the kink. I am not sure if you saw me on the mirror though for the 2 laps..
I was hoping you let me pass on the straight so I could enjoy the corners instead of being held up for the third lap.. Sorry, it was indeed my mistake.
It was unintended mistake, that experience brought me back to the Happy Laps bad experience back in Feb when there was a Holden Ute that went so fast on the straight and would not let anyone pass him, but he held up 10 cars behind him on the corners.

I was holding a fellow r owner up at the start so i waved him past and just waited a bit before stepping on the throttle. Seemed like the right thing to do.
It can get frustrating. I was pulling right up behind people on the straight but didn't want to overtake as I was already punching 5th gear and didn't want to get us all kicked off. Anyhow, going out this morning has got me really keen to do some proper sprints.

I was behind the GTi when this happened. Please do understand there's power different between GTi and R, so I don't think the GTi is powerful enough to pass you on the straight, and the frustration being held up in the corners has cause that move.

I'm not sure that you are completely correct. The GTI in question weighs considerably less than the R and I suspect it is not stock. I also had 2 passengers on board, so there are too many variables to make the statement you have made.
I was doing about 100k/hr exercising caution as the Peugeot was taking the pit exit in front of me, so it seems that the GTI was only focusing on the car immediately in front of him.
The fastest I got to on the straight was 163k/hr so if the GTI was doing 180, why he didn't pass then? The video shows me as far left as possible down the straight.
At the end of the day, notwithstanding anything that may have happened in previous laps, what he did was irresponsible, careless and just plain stupid

Settle down peeps, the guy driving the CW GTI knew he was wrong, he apologized. It is happy laps, sure he probably shouldn't have done that, but lessons are learnt. Also, in all honesty, I probably would be have been mad too, (this type of thing happened to me last happy laps but I have a slow car so I didn't worry about it).
I would caught up behind one of the polo gti's around the corners out the back for about 2-3 laps, but then I couldn't overtake it on the straight because it was WAY too fast on the straight. So I took it easy on the straight and I had almost the whole track to myself for the next few laps.
Also when I noticed someone was on my tail going down the hill before the straight I made sure they could get past on the straight so that way we could both be happy chappy's and keep on driving.

Anyone happen to check their engine oil temp. while out on the track? Had a quick look at mine and was up to 108 degrees celcius. By far the highest I've seen driving the car lol
Dropped back down under 100 pretty quick after the final lap behind pace car though.

Well, I certainly had a blast! First timer, and I couldn't believe how quickly it was over.
Hope I didn't cause too much angst in any one. I tried to get out of the way at the beginning of the straight almost every time - I preferred playing Chase!
Pretty impressed with the little Polo. It certainly wasn't close to its limits with me at the helm, especially with it being wet . Still managed to keep up with some of the bigger boys, so watch out when I get more experienced! (I know-famous last words! )
And it seems pretty miserly. Someone told me they use a quarter tank of fuel during that half hour. How many others use that much? My tank barely dropped by1/14th.
My thanks, too , Clay, for putting this together.

Probably a little irrelevant seeing my car is totally different to VW's but I had around 95C. For some reason it runs cooler on the track than in gridlock at peak-hour. I'm guessing that it's getting huge amounts of air being shoved at the radiator from going fast.

Glad you like it :) At the start for the first few laps I was stuck behind a polo gti around the back of the circuit but it didn't bother me, I just took a cool-lap while playing Gran-Turismo music (suited quite well haha) and then had almost the whole track to myself. :)
Yeh my little 1.6 i4 N/A in my DS3 hardly used any on the track, mine used around 1/16th. Onboard computer said the fuel consumption was only 13.9L/100km going around the track. Better than last time which was 15.1L/100km.

Had a great time again ! Cheers Clay... But it seems our time on the track was cut short ; couple of pieces of dangerousness I can see in the video there... All I have to say is that if theres cars tailing close to you in the corners LET THEM PASS on the straight ! I felt held up most of the time as we all seem to have a same speed down the straight ~ back off down the straight & let those who are faster through the corners go past you - reminds me of slow drivers blocking the right lanes on highways ><

Okay so it seems like there was quiote afew things that need to be rectified for next time.
I had a chat with the guy who runs it from QR's end and he said that it was getting pretty sketchey out there.
He specifically noted a few cars of whom i will be sending a pm to.
First of all, as was said at the safety briefing, IT IS HAPPY LAPS!
It is not timed/track racing/for points etc.
We drive close to the safe limits of our car unless we are told to go slower (as we were this time)
I think the most i got to was about 130/135 when overtaking.
Anyone going over that was blatantly braking the rules considering how damp it was.
Secondly, whilst the usual rules apply that if someone is up your back end constantly on the curves you let them past on the main straight, this event was different.
So taking dangerous lines just because people wanted to prove they could go faster (no real proof) was being stupid and dangerous.
Thirdly, there is no insurance out there for us and a number of people took their family out with them as per usual arrangements.
In the wet everyone should be driving safer than the dry but we had a few people who were going all out as if it were dry and endangering the others/families ot there on the day.
Finally, it's not a race.
We were told this and everyone heard it.
About 90% of the cars were well within the safe limits but we ended up with a few doing silly things.
Most of us were happy to pull over and let people go past and i know as Rhys has said previously that more than half the track time i had was free of any traffic because i was willing to wait the traffic out on the main straight for one lap every 3.
Overtaking was allowed on the straights which meant you were able to but only if the car being overtaken signals you to go and you go safely.
The 3 people who were spotted by QR will get a warning from me via pm.
This is their last chance, if it happens again i will not be putting you on the happy laps list ever again.
I organise these events so that we can all go out and have some fun in our cars, push them a bit harder than the road but also in a SAFE way.
If you want to do 180km/h on the track and upgrade every go fast bit on your car and want to show people how fast it goes now i don't think this is the event for you.
I would reccomend the sprint sessions or the morning session after ours that goes for 3 hours and costs around $100.
Bear in mind that i am the sole contact for these events at Lakeside raceway so i am not going to have anyone ruin it for the rest of us and possibly have insurance/legal implications at these events in the future.

+1 Clay.
The videos show overly aggressive driving for 'happy laps'. At a previous event they mentioned spacing between cars as well which i thought would be even more relevant for this event. This is definately not a sprint session!
We were all informed to treat the track as a day out driving with your mates. This means checking your mirrors and driving to the conditions and traffic. If you do this kind of driving on our roads, damn, i'd report you to the cops just so i could feel safe. Watching those videos makes me ever so glad i stayed away from the trouble pack.

I was out for a paddle Sun morning on Kurwongbah, heard the noise ( of the Lotus's ) halfway across the lake, so paddled over for a look. Totally forgot this was on. Was watching from the bottom straight on the lake and thought to myself how serious this looked, crowded around the bottom RH off the straight at times, then I realised I was looking at a heap of VW's! The "red mist" had definately descended on quite a few people!! As much fun as it looked, I was glad I was on the water!

wow 2 incidents within 20 seconds......
i must say the pass on the last corner is not excusable but the black R is just too fast down the straight for the white GTI to pass. however the chopping is also dangerous. it looks like the video car was in the blind spot of the black R but we must look at the mirrors more often, even on the straight.

Another +1 from me as well.
The way I see it is that if there is a fast car following you throughout the back of the track, LET THEM PASS. If you are the person wanting to overtake and the car you are wanting to overtake won't let you, then have a cool-down lap or don't go as fast on the straight so that way you can then push in the next few laps, without getting stuck behind another car. Not only will your mental state be much better, but your car will be thankful as well. :)
I got caught in a big pack towards the end of the straight a few times, so I just held back once I got on the straight again and let them all past.

Clay, many thanks again for organising and sorry to hear that we caused you some unnecessary headaches. Thanks also to everyone who did an anti-rain dance the night before!
My mate in the M3 (it was his first track outing on 4 wheels) is still raving on about how good it was, and I had a blast too. I was pretty damn excited to see another 3 door manual R - I thought I was the only person in Australia with one!! I was less excited to see it with custom exhaust and tune and a mile more pace down the straight though
I saw my oil temp hit 105 for whomever it was that was curious. I think I saw 108 last time when it was hotter. After a half lap back to the pits it was already back down to sub-hundred, so I don't think i'll be borrowing a turbo timer off someone in the Skyline club anytime soon.
I thought to turn ESC off half way through too and that made quite a big difference exiting turn one and also up through hungry. And they say computers know best....
See some of you at QR - can't wait!

They aren't very good, but I got them from the Citroen dealership-apparantly they are standard for the mini cooper but an option for the DS3 being a "citroen racing" add-on that was fitted to my car. Hence why the cooper outputs 90kw standard and the standard ds3 1.6 outputs 88kw. I would recommend spending a few bucks more on iridium plugs. Here's a link for NGK iridium ones, NGK - Euro Car Parts UK (http://www.eurocarparts.com/search/408120030/p/car-parts) (please note these ones are for the mini/PSA 1.6 engine) . I was recommended this website by the DS3 forums. Pretty easy to use, just put in your car on the left and go search. :)

true. And it makes a considerable difference if you're shifting on redline each gear or 500rpm short. A lot of heat is generated in that range and on most street style tunes minimally rewards in laps times. The cars I've tracked haven't offered much better lap times by revving to redline, so have got accustomed to shift around 6000-6200rpm, riding the torque and rarely go above. Unless it's a one lap shoot out or battling :-)
