I'm wondering what the group of buttons with the spanner do? Can't find it in the documentation.

First stop, check the owners manual. Failing that, I'd say it puts the sunroof into the service position...

I'm pretty sure that group of buttons are to do with the bluetooth.

As I said I can't find it in the documentation hence the post. Appreciate constructive comments only - thanks

I'm guessing the spanner calls VW assist if your phone is connected via bluetooth. I think the star is the Bluetooth button.

it's in the manual. spanner to call VW assist but it's europe only hence the 1800 number sticker on your windshield.
someone had posted a fix to recode this via VCDS but I haven't tried it yet

Yep, all to do with European options. They are just pretty buttons for us.

In the UK & Europe, the three buttons operate if you have the factory fitted bluetooth installed. As above but here's what the owner's manual doesn't show......

The ''i" when pressed for more than 2 secs. makes a call to VW Service Call Center for travel information.

The ''spanner symbol" when pressed for more than 2 secs. makes a call to VW Service Call Center for road assistance.

The ''star" is a short press which answers or terminates a phone call. It can also start/terminate voice commands via the Radio/Audio RNS310 /510 system. A long press will reject an inbound phone call.

As said, won't be operable if the systems are not implemented in Australia.

Try reading this thread. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f78/roof-console-three-button-module-reprogram-64338.html

At the end it tells you how to re-programme the numbers to Australian ones if you have a VCDS cable. Or get your dealer to do it.
