Being a newb to the gti I’m not sure where the temp gauge sits usually. On the R32 the needle always sat a bee’s whisker to the left of 90 once warned up and never ever fluctuated regardless of the outside temp or how hard I drove it.

I notice the gti sits plumb in the middle at 90 which is not an issue but today I came down the south eastern freeway (in Adelaide) which is 7 or 8 kms of seriously downhill road and I noticed the temp gauge dropped down to 1/4. When I hit traffic at the bottom it went back to 90. Is this normal? Could the engine cool down this much going downhill?

You'd not normally see that happen Paul, the thermostat should keep the temp pretty constant.

I'd not worry about it today but watch it closely for a few days. I'd be much more concerned about it going the other way.

Cheers Gav,

thought maybe a dodgy thermostat. Will keep an eye on it. A few little things seem to be developing on this car! Once again I blame you for all that extra power!

Sure you weren't going uphill and looking at the fuel gauge? I swear every time I go up the freeway I drain quarter of a tank :P

On the contrary since getting the tbe and stage 2 tune from Gav the fuel consumption is great! I'm getting 550-600km a tank! Maybe you need to see Gav! :cookie:
