I’ve been talking to a few dealers in Melbourne about a new diesel Passat to replace my current transport. I’d heard a new CR diesel was coming out in 08 (not sure when next year), but there is also a new/revised motor before then.
This is the 125kW TDI, a revision of the current 103kW engine. Now I’ve had 2 stories about their availability, from August to the end of the year.

I’m stuck with the question, do I go with the current 103kW, wait for the 125kW or wait until next year for the cleaner CR version. :?

If anyone has heard anything about the timing of the various releases, I’d love to hear it!

Welcome to VWwA Mac Dude j:

What I know is the 125kW 2.0 TDI (I think with DPF as Golf GT Sport has a DPF) will sell along side the current 103kW 2.0 TDI have a look in the VWwA Lounge to see 2008MY updates.

It will be available in August when 08MY lineup is introduced (orders in now possibly you would have to call your dealer ;))

As for the Common Rail TDIs I would expect them when the Passat gets a facelift in 2009MY so here by either early/mid 2009 or late 2009 as 2010MY Passat.

As to whether you should wait for the new tech its up to you but you may not like the facelift.

WARNING all info on when CR TDI makes it in the Passat is speculative so not 100% accurate ;)

Thanks for the welcome phaeton :)

My current thinking is to go with the 125kW TDI as I think this is a great balance between power and economy.

Especially since I'm coming down from my current 240kW ride!

This will be my 1st VW purchase after driving falcons & commodores for years, and a couple of Mazdas.

Looking forward to it, that's for sure...

thanks again!

Your welcome ;)

I think its wise that your buying this version instead of the CR TDIs as so far the higher spec engines have not been shown yet :D

Oh and I'm sure the 125kW with 350Nm :o will supply your power needs for sure :D

Hey just ordered a 125 kw passat - expecting it late Oct/Nov.

Moving from 195kw holden.

Hope finish and quality control are as good as I've been told.

Hi, I'm New!

I have just recieved confirmation (after 5 months of waiting and much stuffing about) that I will have my MY08 125Kw TDI Passat delivered next week.

I ordered back in April through LeasePlan when there was only one model on the price list (the 103Kw one).

The dealer stuffed up ordering the car from Germany and when it arrived this week they worked out it was the 125Kw one (with my other extras and colour etc). After some negotiation I am getting the 125Kw one. Yeee-hah!

Thanks for the welcome. How would I know if it has the diesel particulate filter you mentioned might be included in this model. I have not owned a diesel b4.

My 125Kw TDI Passat Wagon was delivered today. Very happy.

It has the Diesel Particulate filter and the 17" wheels over the 103Kw (obviously in addition to the more powerful motor).

Very nice to drive feels a lot more powerful than the 103 I test drove and certainly than my 4 year old Subaru Legacy 2.5...:):)

And especially considering I only paid for a 103Kw:D

Hi All,

Have had a 125Kw Passat on order since October for a Mid Febuary delivery. I know its a long lead time but when you want what you pay for.....

Anyway would appreciate any feedback from Passat 125KW Tdi owners on how the new Passat goes in the real world. Thanks

Hi Azza67

I've had my Passat since November and I love it! I certainly will never go back to petrol, at least that's the way I feel now. I guess by now you've had yours delivered.

Cheers

Hi azza,

Have had mine for just over 6 weeks now. Couple of write-ups (delivery/first impressions, and 4 week report) can be found in the MY08 thread.

Surely you must have had delivered yours by now?

Michael

Just wondering if the facelift is due in Australia? I was talking to my dealer about this, he thinks its for the US market as the current shape Passat is not due for a facelift. This is not good news especially for those who've pre-ordered R36s for delivery in Sept 08. Seems silly for VW to do it so soon.

I may be wrong but hasn't the current body style been around since mid/late 06? If so a 3 year life is not that uncommon? Being new to the VW's, was the 06 an update on the previous chassis or was it a complete retool?

You could be right although the current shape was released in Europe in 2005 and came to Oz a year later. So it may take 6-12 months for the facelift to get here.....i.e. 2010. That's still only 18months from R36 deliveries

Quite sure the current shape wasn't a facelift from the old car. 4 yrs seem to be relatively short for a design lifecycle compared to the Toureg....I think it was over 5 years before the Toureg had some work done.

Hi,

The current model (3C or B6, depending on where you read the info) was a completely new development (engine orientation - transverse vs. longitudinal - is one of the major changes that comes to mind) and was introduced in 2005 in Europe as the successor to the B5.

If I remember correctly a "facelift" (i.e. cosmetic changes) is planned for 2009 in Europe. The basic shape should not change.

Mind you, the introduction of CR diesels (at least for the 103 kW version) is imminent so there's some major reshuffling under the skin.

Seeya,
Michael

Noticed some initial pics of the facelift......artists' impression I presume? I think I prefer the current look. The new headlight design seem odd but maybe it takes a bit of getting used to.

Just double-checked for "pics" of the update, and I have to say that the front doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the car - too square for Passat (while fine for the SUV-style vehicles).

Just my $A 0.02!

Michael

Update won't happen till mid 2009 in Europe and be out by late 2009 in Europe and here early 2010.

America will be getting their own Passat that is being developed by Shanghai Volkswagen in China on behalf of VW America and China.

It will be bigger & wider than European Passat.

Figured as much. If the pics are anything to go by, I would prefer the current look R36. The headlights are just odd and don't seem to work in with the front nose. Presumable if we're getting the facelift in 2010, the R36 facelift will be another 6-12 months after that? Anyone know the timing in relation to the R32?

Surely if there is a model being manufactured inAsia then it will most likely be available here too due to lower costs for transport, faster delivery times etc? :?

Very glad that we are still getting the German made Passat not China's one. :)
Built quality is a lot better if made in Germany.
