Hello everyone for starters,

I have just bought a GTI golf brand new and i want to put 19" rims on it.

i have been told that a 19" rim needs to have an offset of 48positive or 50positive to fit on with out rubbing at the front on the gaurds.

But i have also been told that 45 positive would be no worries.

then to add to my confusion some one said that the difference between 45 and 50 offset is nothing and can be eliminated by what the tyre size is.

does anyone know anything that can help me get my head around it or know a good place where i can call.

Thanks!

I have 19" x 8.5" with an offset of 50p on my Mk5 Golf Comfortline. Tyres are 235/35R19. The car is lowered and amazingly the rims do not poke nor do the tyres rub.

Because the offset is calculated from the centre of the rim, you will be able to get away with 45p ONLY if your rim is a bit narrower, say an 8" rim with a 225 tyre.
