Weighing up the choice of options on the rocco, is the dynaudio upgrade package worth the $1100 or is the normal audio acceptable? Just wanting to gauge opinions really

I don't believe there is a definitive answer to this question... it has been asked before for whatever model of VW and you will get your lovers and haters.
Audio is subjective at best and each persons tastes vary... I will however say this.....
I would have optioned it on my order if I had the chance... however....the standard system is pretty good anyway and you can always enhance it with aftermarket speakers etc...

the standard system is just ok IMO but in hindsight I would have ordered the dynaudio upgrade

I would have gone the upgrade, but I can get far better speakers for the price on offer. I believe its not to hard to add an amp into the mix either.

That's what I was asking for really, after spending a good few years building installs for myself I know what is good speaker wise etc, but was the amp option that got me thinking, having always lost my boot in England due to amps etc this option sounded quite good. Used to run a custom dynaudio 3 way set with a sub and genesis amp years ago and liked it very very much. Decisions decisions

Just remember that there is no spare wheel with the Rocco, just a tin of sealant and a compressor... perfect spot for a nice little sub and still leave room for the sealant and compressor.
Plus the Dynaudio amp goes under the passengers seat so there are plenty of aftermarket options...

That's where the air ride would go though, I'm a Pom so used to dubs being super low.

So I've ordered the Dynaudio system unheard. Here's my thinking:

- Firstly I work in the music industry, and while I mostly listen to news and talk in the car when I want music I want it to be good.
- I'm familiar with the reputation Dynaudio have - so see that as a positive
- The standard system is OK - just OK
- Having it built into the car means I don't have to worry about an aftermarket system and any potential door rattles etc that might follow

All in all I thought that for $1,000 it was a good enough offer.

I have the Dynaudio (Excite) upgrade in my Golf; I'm not 100% sure it's exactly the same system, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's very similar. If you're buying a 'Roc and the dealer can't give you a system to compare, I'm happy for you to bring a few CDs and demo mine. PM me if interested. Just listen to the stock system first. ;)

The Dynaudio is great value for a $1000. You will be hard pressed to replicate the same sound aftermarket for the money. I had removed my whole sound system from my previous car including 3 way Dynaudio's, Bit One, AMPs and a subwoofer with the intention of fitting it in the Scirocco. Some 6K worth of gear and I ended up selling the lot after I heard the Dynaudio. Dont get me wrong, it could not replicate the sound or power of my previous system I had but its not 5K more money and the hassle to get it all fitted again.

Also once you start modifying the car you will find that you will hardly listen to the stereo!!!

Get regular audio, spend the extra on a tune and enjoy it more than with the exhaust pop's than song's.

OK... I don't have Dynaudio but I am finding there isn't sufficient bass so I am looking at options for a sub without going over the top...

I have found this Liteair Optisound | VIBE Audio (http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/car/liteair-optisound/) which looks like it would be easy enough to mount in the boot and not take up massive amounts of space etc...
I am not sure if it would fit under the passengers seat and I would prefer it in the boot anyway...

Has anybody had any experience with this item or similar...
It is available in Australia from Vibe: Liteair Optisound 8 - Active 1200W Shallow Mount Sub/Box Frankies Auto Electrics Albion Park Rail and South Nowra (http://www.frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/vibe-liteair-optisound-8-active-900w-shallow-mount-sub-box/) for $389.00

Looks interesting Andrew you might find that upgrading the front and rear speakers and a amp will also do the job without the need of a subwoofer. Give Marty at FHRX a call he can recommend a solution to your budget. He knows VAG cars inside out.

Suggest you post in the VW Car Audio and Electronics (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f78/) subforum - you'll get plenty of useful responses there.

Thanks Kev
Although I think the front / rear and amp will be substantially more than the cost of this sub...I will see what comes from posting in the Audio section...:) Thanks AdamD

Guys I just bought a Scirocco and the deal I got was for the car on the floor - no Dynaudio system fitted. Question is - can it be retrofitted/upgraded? I assumed yes but now think thats incorrect damn it.

I have Dynaudio equipment in my home and it is by far and away some of the finest audio gear around, would love to have it in the car.

get it its always a selling feature when you get rid of the car. your buyer will probably be in his or her 20s and a good audio system sets your car apart from others on the market. bring back the bass i say ....lol

for $1000 its good value and covered by full vw warranty

As factory option i think the dyn system is both a decent upgrade, a no hassle choice and good value.

A focal system will lift your listening enjoyment no doubt.

If I was upgrading I'd be looking at Focal. I think a few of us on here have gone down that route.

Thanks, I have had a look at their site. I guess I'm being even more needy than that though!

ie

1) The standard model has how many speakers (which is what I will have)
2) What size are they, should it just be a same size, same place but replace with better brand/components?
3) throw in a small sub some where
4) small sub under the seat/boot
5) done?
6) bonus question..Melbourne Installer that someone recommends?

For those interested, it appears that a UK forum has a great write up on upgrading speakers

These are thought to be a quick simple upgrade and most are happy with the results

I found that it tends to distort on certain types of bass when its up high? not exactly what I had expected!!
