What I got:

Nice! Sounds like a good deal, espcially with the RCD510.

Is this the base model or the comfortline?

Base model. Don't think they can do it that cheap for the Comfortline....

the dsg neutralised twice in manual mode.

dsg wouldnt engage any gears. would just rev and rev.

Thanks! I know I will :D

I've been researching for a few weeks and visited a few dealerships before putting a deposit yesterday. I was just waiting to sell my Yaris YRS which I did yesterday... and within 2 hours was on the phone with the dealer I got my Jetta from. LOL :P My Yaris was about 5 years old and got it with price, practicality and fuel economy in mind (vs choosing the Jetta because I actually want/like it!).

My choices aren't all in the same class. My budget was $30k but can probably stretch it a bit more. I didn't need to spend close to $30k.. if I found one that was $20k I would've gone for it.

Mazda3 Neo Auto currently going for $22-23k DA
- cheap and decent car that looks nice
- reliable (I think)
- but kind of an old model and due for a complete overhaul

Accord Euro Auto for about $30k DA now
- reliable
- comfortable drive
- good power
- fuel hungry

Ford Focus Trend Sedan Auto for $30.5k DA
- didn't test drive this but specs look very good
- reviews generally good but a few have had gearbox problems
- maybe cheap to maintain?

Volkswagen Golf (don't need to specify details here ;)
- great car but I want a sedan this time!

Others I thought about but didn't seriously consider. These cars didn't go further from just browsing through their websites and maybe a few reviews:
- Holden Cruze
- Honda Civic (MY11 is ugly IMHO but MY12 is nice though coming out mid-2012)
- Toyota Corolla
- Mazda 6

I found the Jetta gave me a good balance of looks, comfort, price, fuel economy and power.

The best 2 on your list are the Accord Euro and etta,I know...as I have had them both.

Civic and Corolla also excellent, but in a diffirent league.

And Mazdas are not bad either.

I wish it was highly customized!

It's a 1.4 tsi (118) 2012 JETTA with dsg, fogs, sunroof, tempest blue in colour, 17 inch Queensland wheels (aka joda wheels in the us), black cloth interior (anthracite), two chrome strips on upper grille and no chrome on lower grille, optical parking system, touchscreen radio, 6 cd changer, 10 speaker stereo, sd card slot, dual zone air conditioning, immobiliser, interior motion sensor alarm and keyless entry.

I can't say what it is equivalent to in Australia interms of comfort line or highline as Trinidad only has two variations on the JETTA and that's a wheel option and sunroof option and neither goes by a package name.

Now I'm hearing possibly February 2012. Depressing stuff. I need to take a trip to the dealer.

Here is a pic of the same spec car Jetta at the local dealer here in Trinidad

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/12/d15ec649d954b3d8-1.jpg

Just imagine it in tempest blue and that's what I ordered :)

Based on the specs I quoted and the trim you see in the pic what trim would be the equivalent in Australia? Trendline? Comfortline? Highline?

Over here it's just called the "fully loaded" model. It costs TT $240k or about aud $36880.

Nice.. That looks like a 147TSI Highline model here in Australia, except that the 147TSI uses a 2.0l GTI engine.

The other specs seems identical, except that we don't have keyless entry option here!

We won't be getting the chrome on the lower grille like in the 147tsi so we're almost even :p

The Jetta in that spec looks good, called SEL in America, but they get the 2.5 5 cylinder engine.

Thanks guys. :)

I'm considering these alloy wheels in the coming months:

Borbet Design CA
Winter Sommer ALU Felgen Borbet CA 7.0x17 ET50 5x112mm VW Jetta 1KM | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160665649752)

Or this...

Nice wheels. Have you considered going for lighter weight wheels?

I'm looking at getting TSW nurburgrings

http://www.tsw.com/alloy_wheels_nurburgring.php

I was initially thinking of getting enkei rpf1 wheels

http://www.enkei.com/rpf1.html

Then I changed my mid and thought about getting enkei pf01 wheels

http://www.enkei.com/pf01.html

But I found the Enkeis didn't truly take to the Jetta...

So for now until I get my Jetta I will be picking the nurbs...unless I change my mind again ~_~

I finally went with Borbet CA's. The Jetta isn't the sportiest car around so I didn't want to overdo the wheels. May just look to ricey and a bit of a try hard sports car. I thought the CA would give it that classy stock but not-so-stock look. Here are more pics of the wheel on other cars. Was able to get them for around $755 delivered to my door from Germany - 7x17 5x112 ET50 (stock 17" on Jettas are ET54) with 225/45R17 tyres. I was also trying to get wheels as close enough to the stock profile as possible.

We just got our jetta comfortline 118kw with satnav leather seats for 40k hope that is a good deal. We are loving the car so far. Changed from lance ralliart to this such a difference in ride and noise. Made a good choice. Did I mention fuel economy of approx 7l/100km in city traffic and the car has not even run in yet.

Good choice. Mine's the same colour. Did you install a HID kit on it? I just used halogen whites on mine.

I put in a HID kit. It works really well and have just adjusted the headlight level to 1.5 and have no issues with it. Only thing i have had come up is the Comp saying lights not working but if you turn them on it goes away and have noticed it only comes on during the day when the lights dont come on. Otherwise work perfect. Am thinking of getting the Canbus adaptors.

Just an update on my Jetta.

Here's what's happened in 16 months:

Replaced clutch kit due to shuddering. Dealer A refused to acknowledge but dealer B said yep it's there so they replaced it.

Replaced supercharger water pump. Dealer A refused to acknowledge, dealer B did but for some reason just 'forgot' to do it during the clutch kit fix but they replaced the seat bolts as part of a recall.

Dealer C replaced the water pump but noticed an oil leak and blamed dealer B's clutch kit replacement.

Dealer B acknowledged borking the clutch kit fix that affected a component of the drive shaft, and is replacing the component to fix the leak.

In between these fixes there were some blaming of multiple parties including the VW specialists I had my car serviced at. Multiple inspections too which was a waste of time... so I say something's wrong, they inspect it, and rebook for another day because they need more time or need to order a part. I don't remember how many times I've visited dealerships in 16 months. It's a little bit tiring. So while everything has been fixed in the end, the number of times I have visited dealerships has really made me question why a car in this decade needs to be brought to dealerships this often.

Suffice it to say, I do not think I'll be getting a Volkswagen after my Jetta. I'm just waiting for warranty to run out (5 years) before I sell and buy something else.

Rawcpoppa
30-04-2013, 10:22 AM
OUCH! Sorry to hear you went through all of that. I wouldn't blame you for selling.

So far I haven't had too many issues. I used to get juddering in gear 2 in D mode at times but the dealer told me to drive the car harder coming out of slow corners/uphill and this amazingly sorted out my issues. Other than that I have had some squeaky door rubber seals which can be sorted out by lubricating them. That's it.

I have come across one other mk6 jetta owner who has had their waterpump replaced as well for an issue with the supercharger clutch.

We only have one VW dealer here and I sometimes find myself wanting others here but after reading what you went through I'm not so sure :/

Sold my Jetta last Friday.

Needed to do it just to save my sanity. Can't believe how calm I've become afterwards. The feeling I had was sorta like how you are in a relationship where you know it's not gonna work out with your gf but you're sticking around because you have no major reason to breakup but you know deep inside that something was off.

And the feeling you get after breaking up in, as dumb as this sounds, the same feeling I had when I sold it. I actually feel less dislike from VW as a whole. I saw some threads on Whirlpool on VW's where I'd normally reply in regards to reliability, customer support, etc etc but just moved on. I didn't even feel the need to respond to it.

Right now I only have (mostly) good things to say about the VW. Great ride, quiet cabins compared to competitors, and overall good value for what you get. Maybe I'll go back to the brand after the next generation of cars (MK8's) but for now, I'll enjoy my new Mazda 3 SP25. Taking delivery next weekend :)

See you around Rawcoppa. I'll remember to log in here once in a while to see what you've done to your Jetta :P

Hey Ziggy sorry you had such a bad experience. So far I've seemed to dodge bullets. I even went as far to swap out my intercooler myself!

Good choice on the Mazda 3. I really like Mazda's current design language and like comparing their choices to VW's in certain aspects like transmission and engines.

Will you post pics and reviews on another forum?
