Hello I've been quoted $1850 to install the towbar in my Caddy GP Maxi Life
I underestand the GPs need a module but 1850!!!?!

I have decided it is cheaper to rent a truck whenever I need to move something big.

Has anyone had a tow bar (aftermarket) installed on a facelifted Caddy ?

most likely due to the caddy not being towbar ready which means full wiring front to back. Although it still only takes a few hours

the factory tow balls look like a big dil#o to me. Frightening. Stay with rental unit.

Thats about right. Payed $1600 for both my Multivan and Skoda Octavia. It's due to the CANBUS interface that is required.

Buzuki is right that they are not prewired and have to run wiring from front to back. I have been told that some models now come prewired for towbar.

In pricing tow bars for a Caddy - I was quoted $1600 at one dealership, $1300 at another and $1000.00 for an aftermarket install with an ECU.

As far as dealerships go with the genuine one, how neat do you want the job done?

If you've got a Maxi Life, it's virtually a full tear-out of the interior to run the wiring through.

ok just been through all of this! i got quoted buy our local vw dealer $2000 fitted, i like them but sorry couldnt cop that!
Here is how i got mine for under $600

buy VW Caddy & Maxi (2004>) std. towbar from ironbull (http://www.ironbull.com.au/) $380.91 (mine is an 08 and installed myself less than three hours) my girlfriend dubed ours the dild@ style too :)
and our local auto elected used his own electric kit and installed $180.

the only thing i had a problem i have with these towbars, is the supports for the bumper (not structual ones don't worry) didnt quite line up so just use self tappers on those, it just stops the bumper flexing if you like standing on in.
We just wanted a set up to pull a 400kg cub camper for hollidays that didnt cost the earth.

The bar is rated 1.6 t not that i would like to try that with a 1.6 pet

cheers

Quoted around $1450 for a genuine VW fitted towbar for my 2009 Jetta. Got a Hayman Reece fitted for around $650. CANBUS fitting wasn't a problem (Qld Sunshine Coast)
