Check it, little rough round the edges from previous owner, but all the same a real nice ride!

Awesome! Like the wheels!
I have a feeling our next car might be a Touareg, not sure i could shell out for a high end model but the R5TDI looks the goods, how does it perform? i dont know much about 4WD's but does its power output handle the weight of the vehicle ok? I suppose the torque of the TDI is a big help?

Andy... Don't demean your Treg! Guys....I've seen and heard her and she's a beauty :) The RR is nice too (did you sell it yet?), but I prefer the Treg.

Nice looking R5, but then I'm biased. Interesting point though, never seen an R5 with the R5TDI badge at the back. V6TDI and V10TDI yes, but not the R5.
The grill's different as well.
Now you've gotta get it dirty and scratched in the bush. :D
Cheers

Overall the car is great, power is good, though i have added a chip which boosted the power somewhat, but economy has dropped so may remove the chip. the wheels are 'ok' only type i could get to fit, its the new rubber i have which is the goods, cooper discovery! spose to last 80000 clicks?
Its the luxury model with leather and extras like the chrome grille, have had some issues though, water pump wore out at 65k, seatbelts were a issue too, curling and clasps not working, now replaced under warranty, parking sensors faulty and vw will not repair under warranty as has had a new bumper fitted from previous owner rearending some one.
I am off to the UK in a few weeks and my bro scored me a new sat nav/tv/dvd player for the dash, replaces the cd player thats there now, screen was a steal from the UK about 3k cheaper than aussie.
One last thing is the 60k service is $1500 as its a major one, so i got audi to sort it and was more resonable.
Still got the RR Brackie, cant sell the bloody thing..

My 60k service for the GTI wasnt far off that ($1500) so not too bad for a big diesel i reckon. Ashame about the issues you have had with it though. :(

never seen an R5 with the R5TDI badge at the back.
I have seen in press photos can't remember if I have seen them in person ;)
I can say that the badge is wrong, standard one has a gap between R5 and TDI ;)

Hey Andy
What kind of chip do have in the R5. I've got a DPCHIP, but I think they're all pretty similar.
Mine has nine settings from 0 to max. On max it goes through the juice, but at that setting you're getting the full effect (still probably better economy than the V6 Touareg anyway). I run mine at 6, which seems to give me a good compromise between power and economy. I did disconnect it once, but the good-lady-wife was onto me and I had to connect it back up.
Cheers

Come on mate, BMWs are excellent cars. I had an E46 325ci for the weekend (my friend went to Gold Coast and left it to me). It was nice driving it, very smooth and comfortable, but on sunday nite i got in my car and the smile came right back on!!! My car is sooooo much more fun, but in 3-4 years, when kids come along (i hope), i'll trade my car for a 330ci or a 335i if funds permit.
R32 is just too harsh and loud for kids

If it is a DP chip you are after (and it should be!) then your local TJM dealer will sell you one. My dealer (Newcastle) was happy to order one and fit it for me as a trial for a few days. I bought it! Around $1200 IIRC

Hi Bob,
Looks like not until end of April...
Chile is great, but I'd kill to have the T here, there are many deserts to cross and REAL montains to climb. Frustrating thing is that I have only seen them as city pose vehicles - there are 2 in our street but they never get dirty!!!!
So it's down to Avis for a R & D (rent and destroy) special. We had great fun for 2 weeks with a 2.5l R5 petrol powered 6sp DSG VW Vento sedan from Avis. Made in mexico, they are a really nice little jigger - plenty of GO and handling tight to boot. Build quality solid germanic - no rattles after the 2500km of punishment we gave it in the south of Chile. Quite impressive...
