Hey all,

I've got my eyes on a set of wheels at the moment which have been pretty much what i've been after for agesss, the only downfall to them is the offset is et40 with a wheel width of 6j (this will change with different lips). What is the highest offset that will clear on the MK1s?

I'm ok with using spacers if i have to, but if it will need THAT much spacing to get it to clear and therefor not allowing big lips, i don't think i'll bother.

Any input, even pics/etc would be great!

et45 is stock offset for some of hte stock mk1 steelies.... the 5" diesel ones I think. On that basis, given the stock ones still have a resonable clearance, they will fit as they are. I'd say definately on the front, perhaps they will come close to the springs on the back.

In my memory i had a 6" et42 just touch the rear springs on occasion (tyre not rim). a skinnier tyre would have been better.

One of the best things you could do in that case probabl would be to get some stub axel spacers for the rear - that will give you all the clearance you need.

I have mk3 steelies on my mk1 which are 14x6" (et45) with 185/60 all round and the front tyres are very close (less than 10mm) to the strut but never touch. the rear tyres and rims are even further away than the fronts (15-20mm) and ive never had a problem with tyres rubbing on springs or struts.

yes it'll fit.

mad fitment up back. up front you may need a small spacer (~3mm), *depending* on tyre size.

Couldn't ask for a better set of wheels to chuck bigger lips on.
