Hey all,

I'm having difficulty pairing my iPhone 4S with the RNS510 in my recently purchased MY09 GTI.

I've followed instructions laid out in the manual with no luck... for example, it won't even give me an audio alert when I double press the phone button on the steering wheel. Does this function work in Oz as I've read that it doesn't work for our American friends without a third party piece of kit.

Also, how do I go about updating maps and ensuring it's got the most up to date firmware. I'll continue to sift through the forums looking for answers but any help in the meantime would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Your phone does not connect to the rns510 you need to have a separate Bluetooth unit installed. Search the audio section for plenty of answers..

I have a Dension Gateway Five. It's identical to factory MDI and Bluetooth basic. Got it shipped for $330. It's a proper bit of kit.

As for the maps the latest version is from 3rd quarter 2009. Sad I know. You can thank the red tape of Sensis for that.

I don't know the exact version but I know my-gti.com (http://www.my-gti.com) might be able to help you out on that.

Cheers

So I was a little surprised that you pair from the iphone to the VW bluetooth, not the other way around (as per other devices I've had int past). Presuming you can see a device called VW bluetooth or similar, it should pair (code 0000 on mine) no probs. There is a thread in here about problems with the IoS5 and the VW bluetooth.
The link above to MyGTI has all the firmware updates on there, and how to install them.
Al..

Thanks for the advice and links/pointers guys. I'll look into bolt on Bluetooth options. Is it crazy money to try and get the VW one plugged in?

If you have a rns510 best would be to use something that will link into the unit. There is basic systems out there that will give you simple functions and some that will allow use through your head unit which cost a little more but im sure you would be disappointed if you put a basic system in and not have these functions.

Just to get the factory purchased and installed will be $500 easy.
