It took around 6 hour to do and I managed to fit it without taking off the bumpers so all well. I will colour the top hose matt black to match the standard look of the car. I may also paint the fron of the cooler matt black also.
Got a few more goodies to fit then she will be back on the road.

That must have been tight without taking the front bar off?

Were the requisite hoses and clamps included in the price?

Looking good mate, nice job! Don't suppose you had the core pressure tested??

It was a squeeze but better than I thought. Yes all the fittings were included and the quality if the clamps, pipes and hoses are spot-on.

Don't suppose you had the core pressure tested?? No

That looks like a hell of a lot of piping, how did you secure the core in there, normally you have to weld tabs on

Cable ties - only joking. It came with brackets and bolts on to the bumper support.

Sorry mate. Which kit is it. Did a search for 'Polo GTI', but nothing came up. Is it a MK4 GTI kit??

That's the one. They don't do the Polo in the States.

any feedback, impressions and testing would be greatly appreciated. I've always been sceptical of cheap intercoolers, though that's based on the jap import market rather than any first hand experience. Perhaps even that piping with a good locally manufactured core could be cost effective.

I've already done the cheap ko4 & it's a ripper after running 6000 ks
I will let you know how the fmic goes but the quality looks good, even my mate who is a alloy fabricator was impressed. Still the proof will be in the running but the main reason I got it was for the heat soak, especially coming up to summer

Piping looks quite long. Interested to see how throttle response changes compared with the shorter/standard piping.

Cheers

That's always the concern in my head when I see these FMIC installations

Yes there is around a extra meter of piping compared to stock plus the extra 250mm width of the cooler. Still I will be happy with a bit of extra lag if I get the bonus of cool air. I will be running it tomorrow so we will see.

Well I finally took the car for a test drive and everything works fine. There is a slight bit of extra lag, around 300rpm more than before but it's always a trade off and when we get to the hot weather it will be worth it.
Now I just need to get it re-tuned.

I'm heading to the USA in 2 weeks time, so I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these kits when I am over there.
